A Legal Assistant is required for our client to deal with the promotion and administrations of chambers and its members.

You will be organising barristers diaries and ensuring that each member of Chambers is achieving optimal profitability and always operating within Chambers policies.

The working hours for this role are Monday to Friday 8:30am 5:45pm.


Main responsibilities:

  • Deal with all administration duties within the Chambers
  • Ensure all the practitioners diaries are up to date, commitments are recorded, and practitioners are notified about upcoming professional commitments
  • Answer telephone queries from solicitors relating to selection and availability of Counsel whilst adhering to Chambers policies
  • Use the Chambers tracking system to book briefs, instructions and papers and ensure they are received & acknowledged in time for cases
  • Ensure all confidential and sensitive materials are marked
  • Attend hearings and attempt to obtain best dates for the Counsels diary
  • Negotiate and bill Counsels fees in privately funded work in accordance with Chambers policies
  • Ensure all records regarding publicly funded work are up to date and the correct fees are billed
  • Encourage members or chambers to return paperwork in a timely manner
  • Work alongside the Credit Control department and provide information which may be necessary to assist timely fee collection
  • Ensure all complaints are directed to the Head of Business & Administration
  • Assist the promotion of Chambers as directed by the Practice Group Director by attending events or other networking events when required
  • Always look for opportunities to promote Chambers and the practices of individual members
  • Be an ambassador for the Chambers and always act in a professional manner displaying the highest standards

Requirements:


  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • Remains calm under pressure and avoids mistakes
  • Can make fair and concise decisions
  • Honest and trustworthy
  • Motivated and well organised
  • Legal training and understanding of legal terminology would be beneficial
