    Description

    We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 7 registered practitioner (nurse or allied health professional) with experience in acute and chronic pain management to join our established service. The successful candidate will work alongside the multidisciplinary team to develop both the outpatient chronic pain service and inpatient acute pain service.

    Herefordshire Pain Management Service is an integrated service which provides care to patients as well as education and support to carers and clinicians looking after patients experiencing pain in hospital and the community.

    Herefordshire Pain Management Service provides an acute pain service for adults and children admitted to The County Hospital Hereford. Most commonly, our patients are recovering from surgery or injuries, but we do work closely with other teams across the trust, including palliative care.

    Herefordshire Pain Management Service also provide specialist advice and treatment to help adults living with chronic or persistent pain in the community. Patients may be referred by their GP, physiotherapist or hospital specialist team.

    The team work alongside the pain self management service which is delivered by staff from the Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

    This is an exciting opportunity to join our small, friendly and dynamic team and make a real difference.

    Main duties of the job The main duties of the job are multi-faceted as the senior nurse for the team, working closely with the Consultant Leads to ensure the service is delivered in a safe and efficient manner.

    The outpatient role will include delivery of patient assessments and follow up appointments, as well as some interventional procedures including Quetenza topical therapy.

    The inpatient role will offer a range of opportunities, including inpatient ward reviews, provision of education to ward staff in postoperative pain management and delivery of outpatient assessment, medication reviews and interventions for patients living with chronic pain.

    The four domains of specialist practice underpin this role therefore, the post holder will be required to demonstrate:
    • leadership skills and advanced communication strategies,
    • advanced nursing practice and to effectively manage a complex clinical caseload,
    • the ability to deliver specialist advice, support, education,
    • the knowledge and skills to undertake audit and research

    • Registered Nurse with significant post registration experience at a senior level
    • Must possess or willingness to undertake Nurse Prescriber qualification.
    • Post Graduate Degree (MSc or higher), or equivalent, in Pain Management or willingness to work towards this.
