Description
We are seeking an experienced, enthusiastic, and forward-thinking Anaesthetist to join our team at Pride as the Head of Service. Our anaesthetists play a vital role in the day-to-day clinical tasks, including administering anaesthesia and sedation, providing analgesia and critical care support, and offering after-hours emergency coverage.
In addition to clinical responsibilities, the Head of Service will contribute to shaping the hospital's operating strategy by collaborating with other department heads, nursing managers, and the operations management team. At Pride, we handle a diverse range of cases, primarily focused on dogs and cats with occasional exotic cases. We also boast an on-site pain clinic managed by one of our Dip.ECVAA members.
Our Anaesthesia team fosters continuous learning with weekly tutorials and journal clubs, and the hospital hosts a clinical club covering various topics, providing frequent in-house CPD opportunities. Comprising three Diplomates (two ECVAA and one ACVAA), one residency-trained fellow, and one post-internship fellow, our department is supported by a dedicated team of experienced theatre nurses.

Pride Veterinary Referrals, proudly affiliated with IVC Evidensia, serves as the premier small animal referral hospital for the esteemed Scarsdale Veterinary Group. As part of a multi-species practice encompassing 11 sites across the Midlands and employing over 300 staff, we offer a comprehensive range of specialist services. From anaesthesia to orthopaedic surgery, neurology to ophthalmology, our dedicated team delivers unparalleled care to our patients.
Situated within our state-of-the-art facility, equipped with 24/7 veterinary care and supported by a committed night team, we collaborate closely with the University of Nottingham. Our partnership extends to veterinary students who benefit from rotating through both our first opinion and referral services. Our exceptional amenities include 13 consultation rooms, 7 hospital wards, 5 cutting-edge theatres, and a full advanced imaging suite featuring CT and MRI capabilities. Additionally, we boast interventional radiology and cardiology resources, an endoscopy suite, hydrotherapy pool, treadmills, and specialized chemotherapy and radio-iodine treatment rooms.

What We're Looking For
We are in search of a European or American College Diplomate to fill this position. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in a multi-disciplinary referral environment, with leadership experience being advantageous. We seek an individual capable of contributing to the development of future Anaesthesia strategies and fostering robust collaborations with colleagues across various disciplines and throughout the broader referrals division.
Working Hours
This role is a full-time position, comprising 34 hours on-site spread across four days, with an additional six hours compensated for covering on-call duties and administrative tasks. Typically, full-time colleagues work four days per week, adhering to standard hours from 8 am to 5:30 pm, and participate in the shared out-of-hours rota, which typically occurs one in four shifts.
