    My client is looking for an experienced Fleet Workshop Supervisor / HGV Workshop Supervisor / HGV Workshop Foreman / Productive Workshop Supervisor / HGV Charge Hand / HGV Senior Technician / HGV Technician Lead to join their friendly team in Gloucester.     The role of the Fleet Workshop Supervisor / HGV Workshop Supervisor / HGV Workshop Foreman / Productive Workshop Supervisor / HGV Charge Hand / HGV Senior Technician / HGV Technician Lead:
    • The role is key in effectively supervising and motivating a team of Commercial / HGV vehicle technicians to deliver outstanding service delivery to internal and external customers.
    • The Workshop Supervisor role is 'hands on' and you will be required to undertake periodic inspections, maintenance, repair and testing on a diverse fleet of vehicles and plant including heavy goods and light commercial vehicles to DVSA standards.
    • They want you to demonstrate key strengths in people and workshop supervision, vehicle fault diagnostics, repairs and effective servicing of their fleet.

    Job Purpose of the Fleet Workshop Supervisor / HGV Workshop Supervisor / HGV Workshop Foreman / Productive Workshop Supervisor / HGV Charge Hand / HGV Senior Technician / HGV Technician Lead:

    • Responsible for the immediate supervision of the allocated workforce on a day to day basis, and the maintenance of a high level of exceptional and efficient quality work flow through the Fleet workshop
    • To inspect, service, diagnose, repair and maintain all types of vehicles (commercial and non-commercial), plant and equipment to the required standards and in compliance with workshop Health & Safety regulations and procedures.
    • Ensuring minimal vehicle downtime through effective scheduling, organisational skills, 'right first time' outcomes ensuring workshop productivity levels are maintained within budgets.
    • Responsible for ensuring the quality of the work produced by the workshop in line with regulatory guidelines and the successful completion of annual MOT inspections first time. The post holder is required to support the Workshop Manager in achieving key performance indicators (KPIs) of the Fleet service and achieve full vehicle availability to successfully support the needs of front line services at all times.
    Main Duties and Responsibilities of the Fleet Workshop Supervisor / HGV Workshop Supervisor / HGV Workshop Foreman / Productive Workshop Supervisor / HGV Charge Hand / HGV Senior Technician / HGV Technician Lead:

    • To be responsible to the workshop manager and assist in the day to day management of the area Fleet service including customer and supplier liaison and any other workshop arrangements and contracts.
    • Ability to travel to other depots to provide support with areas of workshop cover as and when required
    • To be responsible for the direct supervision and effective work allocation of the workforce on a day to day basis, ensuring a high level of exceptional quality work flow through the Fleet workshop.
    • Manage vehicle maintenance operations, ensuring that there are effective systems of communication, training & development, appraisal and 121's in place to inspire and motivate staff to optimise their skills.
    • To undertake maintenance and repair of all vehicles and plant held or serviced by the company which includes external customers. To ensure the accurate completion of records, both electronically and written, of materials used, defects, repairs undertaken and condition of the item inspected/serviced.
    • Prepare and submit all Commercial vehicles, other than exempt categories, for annual MOT inspections.
    • Act as the 'MOT Manager' for the MOT test facility as required.
    • Take responsibility for working on your own initiative including when working away from the centralised workshop or outside of normal working hours. This includes undertaking dynamic risk assessments on all non-generic activities.
    • Ensure that full, accurate and up to date vehicle records together with other records and inspections relating to the Fleet operation, are kept up to date and in good order.
    • Prepare formal written targets for the workforce, against which performance can be monitored.
    • Carry out periodic quality checks on work produced by the Fleet workshop and ensure this meets the required standard.
    • Communicate and collaborate across the business including working closely with the Operation team supervisors
    • To be responsible, as a key holder, for the security, opening and closing of the workshop, stores and depot yard as required.
    • Committed to work outside of the normal working week to support the recycling and waste service including working 'catch-up days' when requested.
    • Able to work a shift system between the hours of 06:00 and 18:00.
    • Undertake out of normal hours stand by and call out duties, on a rota basis as required.
    • Assist in the development of the Fleet operation as a viable and competitive organisation. Assist in setting financial targets for the division and to monitor the performance of the staff and workshop to ensure that these financial targets are met.
    • To provide written quotations/estimates for repair and maintenance of vehicles, plant and machinery as necessary.
    • To prepare documentation in preparation for the invoicing and recharging of internal and external customers.
    • Ensure that vehicles, plant and equipment are maintained in a safe condition and comply with DVSA Operator Licence undertakings and DVSA Guide to Maintaining Roadworthiness.
    • Run weekly staff meetings and report on productivity and operational difficulties in the area.
    • Responsible for inspection, calibration and the condition of all workshop equipment ensuring fit for use.
    • Manage the stores to ensure that the correct maximum and minimum quantities of spares are ordered and stocked; Undertake stores stock checks as required.
    • To be responsible for the accurate direct ordering and booking of parts from the Fleet stores, and the security of the stores at all times.
    • Deal with the application of HR policies in relation to discipline, absence, grievance etc.
    • To be responsible for working within the Health and Safety Policy and safe systems of work of the company and assist in maintaining the cleanliness and tidiness of the workshop areas.
    • To undertake Risk Assessments, COSHH assessments etc as and when necessary. To ensure that staff comply with Health & Safety policy and legislation at all times and to attend Health & Safety meetings as and when requested.
    • When required, represent and deputise in the Workshop Manager's absence.
    • To undertake the supervision and training of technicians apprentices, improvers and work experience students.
    • Undertake any other responsibilities or training that may be required by the Head of Fleet Operations, commensurate with the grading of the post.

    Essential Requirements for the Fleet Workshop Supervisor / HGV Workshop Supervisor / HGV Workshop Foreman / Productive Workshop Supervisor / HGV Charge Hand / HGV Senior Technician / HGV Technician Lead:

    • Full valid, UK Driving Licence (or European equivalent) with LGV Category C entitlement.
    • City and Guilds full craft certificate in Motor Vehicle Mechanics, or equivalent.
    • Experience in supervising, developing and motivating a frontline workforce to deliver exceptional service delivery.
    • Experience of working and carrying out inspections, servicing and repairs on a mixed fleet of vehicles.
    • The ability to work under pressure to a high degree of accuracy, multi-task and use initiative to keep business performance on track.
    • DVSA Approved Tester for Classes IV and V11 or fully meet the requirements to become an Approved Tester.
    • Literate, including basic IT skills – to use, interrogate, update and retrieve data from the Fleet Management System and other forms of electronic equipment.
    • Working knowledge of appropriate Health and Safety Legislation.
    • Possession of own hand tools for work purposes.
    • Physically fit to work under vehicles and move around the workshop.
    • Experience of using electronic diagnostic equipment.
    • Experience of investigating and writing vehicle safety reports.
    • Knowledge of DVSA testable vehicle items and acceptable tolerances.
