Role Outline
Farnborough International Ltd (FIL) is looking to strengthen its world class team by recruiting a Public Affairs Advisor.


Working in Delegations and Protocol, the Public Affairs Adviser will support the delivery of FIL events working closely with the Delegations Project Manager, FIL Comms and the ADS Public Affairs team.

The post holder will lead on parliamentary engagement for FIL to further its political reputation and goals. All of this will be fully supported and in co-ordination with ADS group the parent company trade association.


We are looking for a confident self-starter who can demonstrate initiative, has a proactive approach to problem solving and can communicate clearly to internal and external audiences to take this new role and develop it.


Role Responsibilities

  • Support the Implementation of FIL Government Strategy, linked in closely with ADSs Public Affairs team and their external relations strategy.
  • Support and coordinate engagement on FIL political campaigns and projects on industry issues.
  • Coordinate FIL responses to government, parliamentary and political consultations, draft responses where appropriate and monitor progress and outcomes.
  • Work with FIL & ADS to support a programme of political and parliamentary events in line with FIL/ADS engagement plan including the annual parliamentary reception.
  • Prepare summaries, reports and public affairs briefings for FIL executives, selected ADS Stakeholders, industry representatives and stakeholder delegations.
  • Coordinate with ADS Group political attendance at major industry events including the biennial Farnborough International Airshow, Sustainable Skies World Summit, Global Urban Automated Air Systems (GUAAS) and Space Comm Expo.
Lead political attendance at FIL events and support ADS PEPAM team at key events as required.

  • Support industry activities at external stakeholder events.
  • Coordinate with industry on key issues and campaigns across FIL target sectors.
  • As required contribute to the work of the ADS External Relations team and interface with comms within FIL including, but not limited to: blogs, website content, policy publications, annual Facts and Figures guide
  • Provide policy support and political research as required for FIL.
  • Take the initiative to seek opportunities to advance FIL messages and objectives.

Reporting Structure


The role directly reports to the Assistant Director of Delegations and Protocol with close co-ordination with the ADS Group PEPAM team, including the Head of Public Affairs.


Skills & Competencies

  • An individual with experience working in public affairs, as an assistant / researcher in Parliament, or in a similar role looking to take the next step in their career.
  • Proven professional experience with direct responsibility of managing engagement and building effective working relationships with political stakeholders
  • Excellent knowledge of political processes and high awareness of the UK and EU political context
  • Demonstrate a good understanding of key political issues affecting ADS sectors (aerospace, defence, security and space)
  • Knowledge or experience of wider business or manufacturing issues
  • Experience of managing multiple projects and events
  • A resultsdriven and highly motivated individual with a cando attitude and the ability to work flexibly as part of a team
  • Excellent communicator, demonstrating the ability to influence through written and verbal communication
  • A selfstarter who can demonstrate initiative and a proactive approach to problem solving
  • Strong organisational skills, effective time management, and the ability to multitask and prioritise
  • Confident working at senior levels with different internal and external stakeholders.
  • A good eye for detail and the ability to consistently deliver high quality, accurate work to deadline
  • Attitude and ability to learn quickly, adapt to changing priorities and manage a busy workload

Contract & Benefits
Contract; Permanent, fulltime role, Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week

Location; Hybrid working

  • 3 days in the Farnborough office and 2 days from home
