It is a really exciting time to join the Reach family. We are now looking for a
Business Editor to join our network in the South West within
BusinessLive.


BusinessLive is passionate about telling the best business stories, covering everyone from young entrepreneurs to the bosses of the biggest firms, and sectors from retail to property and everything in between.


Now we're looking for a skilled Journalist and Editor who wants to lead our business news coverage in the South West of England.


As regional Business Editor you will be responsible for helping us make the most of every story, maintaining high journalistic standards and coming up with ideas for content that will engage our audience and the different communities on our patch.


You will write brilliant stories and features on the people and issues affecting the region's businesses and entrepreneurs - and you'll share them across our platforms so they reach the widest possible audience.


You will host events, be comfortable with audio and video work, and will work with our events and commercial teams to come up with brilliant ideas.

And you'll get to work with the teams from Reach's local titles including BristolLive, CornwallLive and DevonLive.


We're looking for fresh ideas and new perspectives from people from a wide range of backgrounds, and we want you to tell us the stories you believe are important from our many communities so we can continue to diversify our content.


The role is a maternity cover position for 12 months on a fixed term contract.

Key Responsibilities

What will the role involve?

  • You will find and tell stories about businesses and business issues which engage as many readers as possible, or stories which will be of interest to local communities
  • Building communities online and in real life to share stories with once published, and engaged with readers about those stories
  • Telling stories in many different ways, including (but not limited to) realtime live blogs, article format, video, audio and pictures
  • Working with BusinessLive's editor and fellow regional regional editors across the country to grow and develop the site
  • Managing home pages and audience engagement channels including newsletters and social media
  • Maintaining editorial, ethical and legal standards across digital platforms
  • Hosting and organising events, and acting as an ambassador for BusinessLive and for Reach more widely among the region's business community
  • Working with our events and commercial teams to develop great ideas

Who are we looking for?
-
Ideally an NCTJ or equivalent journalism degree and knowledge of media law, ideally you will have an NCE, TM certificate or equivalent:

  • An experienced journalist able to demonstrate strong content management skills and digital publishing knowledge as well as some experience of or potential for managing, leading and inspiring teams.
  • You will have strong knowledge of business and issues affecting businesses
  • You will need to have an understanding of social media as well as digital publishing skills working a CMS, shooting video, taking pictures
  • We'd love you to be passionate about digital storytelling in local journalism
  • A driving licence would be preferable
