The Computing & Information Services (CIS) department at Durham University (DU) requires a contractor Data Analyst to join a specific project until September 2023.
OUTSIDE IR35Hybrid based but travel as required to Durham
The Computing and Information Services department (CIS) provides a variety of IT services to the University. One of these services is a programme called 'Creating an Integrated Student Experience (CISE).
This large programme requires upgrades to existingsystems, implementation of new systems and implementation of new processes in the business teams.
Role Profile - Data Analyst
The data analyst collects, organises and studies data to provide business insight and support, this role entails:
- identifying, collecting and migrating data to and from a range of systems
- manipulate and link different data sets
- summarise and present data and conclusions in the most appropriate format for users
Skills required
The following skills for this role will be required:
Stakeholder management can work with stakeholders to gather requirements and deliver findings
Communication. Can listen to the needs of technical and business stakeholders and interpret them. Can effectively manage stakeholder expectations. Can manage active and reactive communication. Can support or host difficult discussions withinthe team or with diverse senior stakeholders.

Data management can identify and understand data sources, data organisation, construct and storage.

Data modelling, cleansing and enrichment. Can build and review complex data models, ensuring adherence to standards. Can use data integration tools and languages to integrate and store data and advise teams on best practice. Can ensuredata for analysis meets data quality standards and is interoperable with other data sets, enabling reuse.

Data quality assurance, validation and linkage. Has an appreciation and understanding of data quality metrics, assurance and how data should be cleansed and prepared. Can bring data together from different sources. Can communicate the limitationsof data. Can peer review colleagues' outputs to ensure quality.

Logical and creative thinking. Can ensure that the most appropriate actions are taken to resolve problems as they occur.
Key experience
- In depth SQL experience (Oracle PL\SQL and Microsoft T-SQL)
- Experience analysing data sets
- Experience of Microsoft Dynamics and APIs
- Experience of data modelling using sample HE models such as UCISA (desirable)
