School Staff Instructor (SSI)

Contract:
Permanent, part time, TTO.


Hours/working pattern:1 day per week - Fridays 08:30am - 4pm (Plus one extra day per week, day to be agreed with Combined Cadet Force Contingent).


Location:
Scarborough UTC


Salary Grade:
£32,500 FTE per annum, £5,635 actual per annum, for 1 day per week.

Additional 1 day per week, paid by Westminster MIS, salary TBC.


Start Date:
September 2023.

School Staff Instructor (SSI)

GRADE:
£32,000 FTE per annum, actual £5,635 per annum. (Additionally, the SSI is eligible to claim 51 days per year Voluntary Allowance (VA) from the MoD on the Westminster MIS.

Contingent Commander (UTC) & Royal Navy Commander

JOB PURPOSE:

The core focus of this job is to form an integral part of the extra-curricular life of the College.

The SSI plays a formative role in maintaining and growing the Combined Cadet Force, already 40 students strong at the UTC.

To organise and deliver military and adventure training to the CCF. To organise and deliver the content of each Friday enrichment session in partnership with the UTC commander.


The SSI role is central to the smooth and efficient running of the Contingent and the development of the leadership potential of Cadets.

There is an expectation that the SSI will take a lead role in the future direction of the CCF.


JOB CONTEXT:


Promote effective learning, appropriate student achievement and educational, social and personal progress of all pupils for whom the SSI is designated as being responsible, consistent with the aims of the school and the needs of each individual.

Enhanced DBS clearance required.

Full driving license and access to a car is essential - please see person specification.

An ability to fulfil all spoken aspects of the role with confidence through the medium of English.


ACCOUNTABILITIES / MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

Other duties

Instruction and Training

  • Plan and deliver military and adventurous instruction and training to CCF Staff and Cadets including mandatory safety tests.
  • Assist with both military and adventurous training camps, shooting and Cadet Competitions
  • Assist in the management of the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme for the CCF and for learners outside the CCF.

Equipment and Administration

  • Responsibility for the issue, care, maintenance, and accountability of all MoD and CCF equipment and run the College's adventurous training stores.
  • Take a key role in the running of the Westminster Database
  • Responsibility for the coordination and organisation of weekly water sports activities in partnership with Wykeham Lake (Summer season only)

Other duties

  • Attend, organise and assist with college duty support.
  • Attend all meetings and conferences as required.
  • Aid with restorative practice processes
  • Participate in duty support sessions.
  • Undertake general administration duties as required.
  • The postholder may be required to perform any other reasonable duties, as requested by the Principal.

Communications

  • Communicate with school staff and work with the staff to identify students with any issues.
  • Develop and maintain effective contact and communications with parents/carers and families.
  • Attend staff meetings and training days as required.

Partnership or Corporate Working

  • Attends meetings with external agencies as appropriate and follow up on actions required

Skills Development

  • Participate in team meetings and attend any necessary training events.
  • Participate in the school performance management system.

Safeguarding

  • Be responsible for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people that you are responsible for and come into contact with.
  • Know about data protection issues in the context of the role
  • Maintain confidentiality as appropriate.
  • Adhere to and ensure compliance with the Trusts Child Protection Policy at all times

Systems and Information

  • Maintain records of all communication with parents/carers
  • Be aware that different types of information exist (for example, confidential information, personal data and sensitive personal data), and appreciate the implications of those differences.
  • Share information appropriately in writing, by telephone, electronically and in person.

Planning and Organising

  • Assist in developing systems and procedures to improve attendance

Data Protection

  • To comply with the Trusts policies and supporting documentation in relation to Information Governance this includes Data Protection, Information Security and Confidentiality.

Health and Safety

  • Be aware of and implement your health and safety responsibilities as an employee and where appropriate any additional specialist or managerial health and safety responsibilities as defined in the Health and Safety policy and procedur
