  • Job description 1You will be the water quality lead in the Analysis and Reporting team.

This means you will lead on:

  • Designing and having ownership of water quality monitoring programmes for Kent & South London area, including reviewing existing monitoring points and determinants
  • Helping our team provide support to area water quality investigations and monitoring requests, to ensure we are gathering the appropriate data in the right locations.
  • Collaborating with other water quality experts to provide expert guidance and advice in area and to national colleagues & external partners.
  • Analysing & interpreting water quality data and providing reports and information tailored to the requirements of the customer and the question.
  • Responding to queries from internal & external customers relating to local water quality issues
  • Representing our team at internal catchment meetings to assist understanding of catchment specific water quality issues.

  • Our areabased friendly and dedicated team of 11 collect, analyse and interpret freshwater environmental data to inform a range of legislative, national & local requirements. We are skilled in monitoring fieldwork and lab work and use our expertise to assess a wide variety of ecology, water quality & fisheries data from a range of sources. Our customers rely on the evidence we provide to support the delivery of local and national environmental improvements.


  • Experience/skills required 1

  • We are seeking an environmental scientist with knowledge & practical experience of water quality monitoring, data analysis & interpretation.

Essential skills:

  • Qualified to a higher education level (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline.
  • Great communication skills, experience of collaborating effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders and partners.
  • Experience of using data, evidence to influence and effect change for positive environmental outcomes.
  • Wellproven use of appropriate data tools for statistical analysis, interpretation, presentation of chemical data.
  • Ability to analyse Water Quality data, provide appropriate level reports and information depending on the customer and the question.
  • Full driving licence and ability to swim.

Desirable:

  • Ability to understand, describe how the varied aspects of water quality can impact, influence the aquatic ecology of our watercourses.
  • Understanding of a range of methodologies applicable to water quality monitoring.

  • Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.
The role will be based in Orchard House, Addington ME19 5SH with some hybrid-working possible. Travelling to field locations across the Kent & South London area may be required for which transport is provided.
