BDS are currently recruiting for a Homeless Prevention Officer to cover the Stockport area, to work with individuals and couples that are at risk of homelessness to sustain their current tenancies.

Job Purpose;

To deliver high quality person-centered support to customers, enabling clients to sustain their tenancies by promoting independence, freedom and choice.

You will hold a small caseload of tenants, single people and childless couples, who are identified as most at risk from eviction, and eventually rough sleeping.

Provide intensive support with the aim of preventing the eviction from happening and supporting the individuals to sustain their accommodation in the longer term.

Duties & Responsibilities;

  • Provide initial triage assessment for those facing homelessness, conducting investigations and maintaining own casework, resolving situations where possible & making referrals to Housing Options team when appropriate
  • Provide a high quality supportive service to customers, using initiative to resolve their situation and prevent homelessness
  • Make decisions in line with homelessness and related legislation, guidance and caselaw
  • Create excellent relationships with partner agencies
  • Demonstrate flexibility and engage with new ways of working with customers
  • Attend surgeries and meetings where required e.g. Team Around the Child, and others as appropriate
  • Building rapport and positive relationships with customers
  • Communicating information clearly, concisely accurately and in ways that promote understanding, both verbally and in writing
  • Seeking to understand and showing a clear understanding of customer's needs and motivations, responding on an individual basis whilst maintaining appropriate professional boundaries
  • Actively collaborate with colleagues, the Council and other Partner Agencies. Working cooperatively to build and maintain relationships and help deliver successful outcomes
  • Demonstrating some knowledge of Part 7 of the 1996 Housing Act, related legislation, guidance and caselaw
  • Approaching the role with a positive attitude, knowing that you can make a difference in a busy and challenging environment
Working hours are 35 per week, Mon - Fri 9am -5pm.


The role is a hybrid position, you will work 2 days a week from the Stockport office and the rest from home.


This is a temp 6 month contract with a possible chance of extending after wards, salary of £25,000 per annum.

Up to £25,000.00 per year
