The Woolwich Ferry service need to maintain a substantial and comprehensive inventory of stores and equipment to support the upkeep and maintenance of the vessels including the two ferries and associated infrastructure at the berths and terminals.


You'll be responsible for maintaining the storerooms and workshops ensuring equipment is up to date, in a good condition and supplemented when required by the Marine Engineering Manager.


In addition, you'll cultivate close relationships with Commercial Suppliers and work closely with the Marine Engineering Manager and Duty Managers to fully enable maintenance support for the service needs of the ferry service.


Key Accountabilities

  • Ensure that critical spares, other spares and stores, equipment and materials are readily available to deliver all planned and unplanned maintenance needs of the service.
  • Procure and maintain the inventory of spares and equipment prepared by the Marine Manager, ensuring that order timing, quality, prices, and delivery are consistent with specification and service levels/customer requirements.
  • Monitor and manage supply chain to ensure timely delivery of spare parts both critical and otherwise and supplier compliance with procurement contracts.
  • Obtain relevant quotations and negotiate competitive pricing, ensuring supply chain is operated with maximum efficiency and cost effectiveness.
  • Establishing and managing the day to day materials and stores arrangements.
  • Proactively develop good relationships with all suppliers and local businesses to build strong supplier support in meeting business's needs.
  • To provide assurance through the maintenance of accurate records that bought supplies and equipment are always available in the required quality and amount.
  • Develop, gain approval of and implement strategies for the management of obsolescence of bought materials and supplies by working with engineers and others as required to ensure continued service.
  • Manage the engineering materials budget on a day to day basis with authority to purchase within a delegated authority capacity.

  • Knowledge of stock control systems associated with Planned Maintenance Software (Essential)
  • Knowledge of materials and stores management supporting passenger transport or relevant engineering transport operations. (Desirable)
  • Knowledge of vessel and boat operations and related engineering principles, practice, and standards. (Desirable)
  • Health & Safety in the workplace (Essential)

Experience

  • Experience of prioritising procurement plans and implementing these to deadlines, efficiently and to budget (Essential)
  • Experience of working closely with front line operations and management teams (Desirable)
  • Experience of managing a variety of stakeholders within an operational environment (Essential)
  • Experience of building and sustaining strong partnerships and influencing a range of people at all levels (Desirable)
