Sitting in our External Affairs Directorate, our Communications team works tirelessly to tell great stories about our work across elite competition, participation, partnerships and social impact, taking the success of our work to the greatest possible audiences.


About you


We're looking for an experienced and passionate Head of Communications to lead our team and raise the profile of our work across the nation.


You'll have a strong network of contacts in media, an eye for great stories and experience managing a busy press office, as we look to capitalise on the spotlight of Paris 2024 and our expanded portfolio of major events.


What will you be doing?

  • Overseeing a busy calendar of strategic PR and communications activity aligned to British Cycling's purpose and priorities, building affinity and trust with the organisation and its brand.
  • Building relationships with national, cycling and broadcast journalists, working proactively to generate positive and highvalue coverage for the organisation and Great Britain Cycling Team.
  • Supporting the CEO, Board and External Affairs Director on reputation and issues management work, highlighting emerging challenges and advising on approaches to responding.
  • Working closely with our Head of Marketing and Commercial Director to closely align all communications and marketing activity, and tell great stories about our work with a growing network of commercial partners.
  • Preparing key spokespeople for media, event and stakeholder engagements, in the form of briefing notes and speeches.
  • Fostering strong and productive relationships with colleagues across the wider organisation to shape communications activity, advising on communications tactics and strategies to capitalise on emerging opportunities and overcome business challenges.
  • Leading and mentoring our talented communications team, seeking opportunities for their personal and professional development.
  • Playing a critical role as a visible senior leader in the organisation, upholding our values and championing success.
  • Supporting our new five year events vision and social impact programme.
