Description
The post holder will be responsible for the delivery of the ECT service across the boroughs.

The postholder will provide clinical advice to professional colleagues in the services and lead, teach, supervise and support junior colleagues.

The postholder will develop the service and ensure the delivery of the ECT service, ensuring that it meets accepted quality and safety standards in accordance with National and Local guidelines.

The post holder will take a lead role in evaluation, research and accreditation of the ECT service Trustwide.

Develop, provides and maintains high standards of nursing care for patients undergoing electro-convulsive therapy.

  • Directs and is responsible for the provision of ECT services in the boroughs which reflect the highest levels of practice and which includes service user and practitioner safety, and ensures that all legal requirements are fulfilled.
  • Provision of expert clinical guidance and advice to primary/named nurses regarding the pre and post care of patients undergoing ECT.
  • Provides expert clinical/managerial supervision and appraisal to staff nurses and HCAs who support the delivery of ECT.
  • Drives the development of evidence based practice within the unit
  • To ensure that all specialist equipment is regularly serviced, maintained and fit for purpose, and is maintained/ replaced in accordance with manufacturers guidance.
  • Ensure that appropriate protocols are drawn up for the use of that equipment and service contracts are updated and records maintained.
  • Maintains accurate stock control of the drugs and medical sundries.
  • Provide clinical leadership for the delivery of the ECT clinic in conjunction with medical, nursing and other professional staff involved
  • Controls the assessment of care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of individual care programmes.

  • Supports other senior staff in the development of new ideas, strategies and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Maintains and improves own professional knowledge in line with the requirements of the post.
  • Participates in the professional educational activities within the department.
  • Maintains up to date knowledge of the Royal College of Psychiatrists' guidelines for the administration of ECT.
  • Observes the physical and philosophical requirements of the 1983 Mental Health Act.
  • Is a member of the ECT sub group and participates fully in the group's activities.
  • Ensures effective communication is achieved through full participation in the team brief process and other channels of communication
  • Facilitates effective team building
  • Exercises leadership by personal example and assists in the maintenance and enhancement of staff morale.
  • Participates in and promotes a multidisciplinary approach towards patient care
