    Description

    Job summary

    BDCFT Acute Inpatient Services have funded new roles for pharmacy technicians to work on inpatient wards. Successful candidates will administer medications to patients, support admission and discharge medicines reconciliation, provide medicines management and optimization services, and play a crucial role in the physical healthcare of inpatients.

    The postholder will collaborate closely with pharmacy staff, including pharmacists, other technicians, and assistants.

    Comprehensive training and support for medication administration will be provided.

    Main duties of the job

    To provide pharmacy services to enhance patient care quality at Bradford District Care NHS Foundation Trust.

    Duties include:

    • Undertaking medication administration rounds
    • Screening patients on admission, obtaining medication history, and addressing discrepancies
    • Offering smoking cessation advice
    • Identifying pharmaceutical issues in discharge planning and collaborating with teams to resolve them
    • Dispensing and checking prescriptions
    • Providing advice to patients and carers
    • Supplying stock items to dispensing areas and wards
    • Assessing patients' medications for inpatient use
    • Ensuring compliance with departmental procedures

    Qualifications

    Essential

    • NVQ Level 3, BTEC, or equivalent qualification in Pharmaceutical Sciences
    • Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)

    Desirable

    • Accreditation in Medicines Management or equivalent experience
    • Accredited Checking Technician qualification

    Training

    Essential

    • Regular Continuing Professional Development

    Desirable

    • Health & Safety / COSHH knowledge

    Experience

    Essential

    • Post-qualification Pharmacy work experience, patient consultation skills, SOP familiarity, and medicines optimization experience

    Desirable

    • Similar role experience, effective time management skills
