Covering the post of Head of EDI during their maternity leave, the postholder will lead on the coordination and connection of operational and strategic activities to deliver the University's EDI and anti-racism agenda, supporting the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (DVC) to enhance the institution's governance and culture to ensure it becomes a more inclusive organisation that values difference, actively addresses discrimination, and creates a sense of belonging.


  • On appointment, the roleholder will work with the DVC and the Chief Operating Officer (COO), together with the Heads of Professional Services (General Council and University Secretary, Academic Registrar and Director of HR), on the revision of operational structures to support EDI and antiracism across the institution with the aim of ensuring the effective coordination of our activities and enhanced accountability and responsibility for EDI and antiracism matters. This will involve considering the most impactful organisational model for EDI and antiracism at Cardiff University, and leading the development of our Strategic Equality Plan, 2024—2028 and underpinning action plans, identifying resource requirements needed to take forward our ambitions.
  • The postholder will be responsible to the DVC, working closely with the College Associate Deans for EDI, the Dean for Welsh Language, Dean for Inclusive Education, Dean for Research Cultures, and the Heads of Professional Services (General Council and University Secretary, Academic Registrar and Director of HR).
  • This is a fixed term position covering maternity leave, fulltime (but flexible working options considered), available from 1st August th April 2024.

Salary:
£54,421 - £63,059 per annum (Grade 8)

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Directly supporting the DVC in developing strategic direction and priorities for the University's EDI and anti-racism agenda.
  • 2. Coordinating operational guidance and support around all EDI and antiracism; managing diversity and inclusion steering groups and internal equality, diversity and inclusionrelated fora and networks; and leading on the framing of an operational plan to implement the priorities and objectives of the University's Strategic Equality Plan.
  • 3. Enhancing the governance and connectivity of EDI and antiracism activities across the University, working with the DVC, COO and College Pro Vice-Chancellors to revise operational structures to ensure optimal connectivity, impact and accountability on EDI and antiracism matters.

Coordinating, supporting and mentoring those carrying out equality, diversity and inclusion activities across the University, including the College Associate Deans for EDI, overseeing the coordinated delivery of EDI and antiracism activities and initiatives that promote an organisational culture that values and upholds equality, diversity and inclusion in our daytoday work in Colleges, Schools, and Professional Services Directorates.
  • 5. Maintaining a thorough understanding of all equality legislation, regulations, and codes of good practice, interpreting any changes in legislation, and determining how these will impact the University.
  • 6. Working with colleagues in the relevant Professional Services areas, particularly Compliance and Risk, HR, Registry and Student Life, to provide professional advice and guidance on regulatory processes and accepted good practice to ensure that our policies and procedures meet our duties under the Public Sector Equality Duty and other relevant equality legislation, and that the University has an integrated approach to its EDI and antiracism obligations.
  • 7. Working with EDI colleagues in the Professional Services to develop and deliver relevant EDI and antiracism related training and support.
  • 8. Working with the Director of Communications and Marketing to lead on the development and implementation of an effective internal and external EDI and antiracism Communications Strategy and reporting on progress.
