    Job summary

    An exciting opportunity has arisen for a competent, confident, and enthusiastic Band 5 Occupational Therapist to join the Adult Learning Disability Community Team within York and Selby, based at Systems House in York

    The multi-disciplinary team works alongside adults with learning disabilities and their families / care support to enhance all aspects of an individuals quality of life, promoting physical and mental health wellbeing at all times within a collaborative and person-centred model of care delivery.

    We are looking for an OT who can work flexibly to meet service need and has the vision, energy, and inspiration to develop creative, imaginative solutions to delivering occupational therapy with Adults with Learning Disabilities and support networks.

    You will access support from the wider occupational therapy network in TEWV, and local adult learning disability occupational therapy in North Yorkshire, York, and Selby to deliver a high quality, needs-led OT service. Utilising core occupational therapy skills to ensure all the people we work with have a robust occupational therapy assessment and intervention plan in place.

    As an Occupational Therapist in TEWV you will be professionally and clinically accountable for own caseload, assessing occupational performance and delivering occupational interventions, always demonstrating adherence to the Trust values and operating as a member of the team, service and organisation.

    Main duties of the job

  • To be responsible for receiving requests for occupational therapy, completing evidence-based assessments and interventions to address key occupational areas of self-care, productivity and leisure.
  • To use client-centred approaches to co-producing negotiated occupational goals and evaluate these with service users collaboratively.
  • To participate in clinical/professional and management supervision
  • To contribute to multi-disciplinary team working
  • To contribute to service improvement and quality initiatives
  • To use the Trust electronic patient record system
  • To abide by all Trust policies and procedures
  • To be able to respond flexibly and creatively to challenges

    The post holder will provide evidence-based occupational therapy assessment and interventions supporting adults with learning disabilities which may include multiple additional needs including mental health diagnoses, complex physical health conditions and behaviours that challenge. Input is provided to individuals, their families and carers in their own homes and community settings.

    All team members must be committed to providing the best possible care for the people we work with and their families/carers.

    The ability to engage and communicate with adults with learning disabilities as well as the parents/family/carers and system around them is essential.

    Clinical/Professional supervision is provided by the supervising Occupational Therapist as identified by the relevant Lead OT. The postholder will attend OT Learning and Governance Networks to ensure fidelity to core occupational therapy delivery, enhance CPD and contribute to the wider OT service developments.

    You must be able to demonstrate experience of delivery of occupational therapy, keenness to continually develop themselves and others, and a particular interest in this field of OT. We will support use of transferrable skills from a range of clinical settings.

    There are varied opportunities for training and development, with CPD needs being identified and monitored through appraisal.

    Qualifications

    Essential

  • Degree in Occupational Therapy or equivalent
  • Registration with HCPC
  • Willingness to undertake the Preceptorship Programme and Competency Framework (within an agreed timescale)
  • Numeracy, Literacy and ITQ level 2 (or equivalent)
  • Desirable

  • Accredited Practice Placement Educator
  • Experience

    Essential

  • Experience of working in a variety of occupational therapy practice areas whilst on student placements
  • Desirable

  • Experience of working with service users with mental health conditions or learning disabilities
  • Experience of working in a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience presenting to groups
  • Knowledge

  • Professional Code of Conduct and its application to practice
  • Health and Safety legislation and its application in practice
  • Legal aspects of Moving and Handling
  • Clinical Risk Assessment and Management and its use in practice
  • Clinical Governance and Clinical Supervision
