That's why we're looking for a Head of EU Strategy to join National Grid Interconnectors EU Business Development Executive team.


The team leads the development of the next wave of offshore grid business development activities, in conjunction with our EU partners, and answers the high-level strategic questions for National Grid Interconnectors.


As the Head of EU Strategy, you'll support the organisation in defining its strategic direction and how to adapt to the changing energy environment, enabling net zero and drive the organisation's future growth, with a focus on Europe and the North Sea portfolio strategy.


This role is based from London or Warwick, and you can enjoy our hybrid working from office and home.

Key accountabilities:


  • Defining a 10year vision for NG interconnector development in the EU.
  • Identifying and driving understanding of the highest priority strategic questions/issues facing National Grid in Europe.
  • Coordinating the strategic discussion with National Grid Interconnector Executive and upwards on EU Strategy.
  • Making strategic recommendations on EU issues.
  • Leading the strategic thinking about National Grid's portfolio strategy.
  • Leading the strategy team.
  • Making recommendations to the EU Regulations & Policy team, Business Development teams, Commercial teams and HVDC Centre of Excellence.

In this case, we're looking for someone who has:


  • A broad understanding of the energy sector and regulatory issues affecting the industry and long term internal and external influences.
  • The ability to work with and influence executive level and senior leaders within an organisation, and engage effectively at multiple levels across an organisation.
  • The ability to lead and deliver high priority projects.
  • An understanding of the operational and commercial challenges faced by a business.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with an ability to convey complex strategic ideas and proposals to a wide range of audiences in a structured and logical way.
  • Experience working in a matrix organisation with multiple stakeholders to facilitate cross functional teams which operate collaboratively and innovatively.
  • The ability to challenge entrenched thinking in a constructive manner; a willingness and openness to receiving similar challenge.
  • The ability to lead and coach a team to allow them to meet their full potential.

What you'll get:

A competitive salary between £80,000 - £100,000 - dependent on capability and location.


As well as your base salary, you will receive a full electric company car or cash alternative, a bonus of up to 20% of your salary for stretch performance, private medical insurance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
