Strategy Manager - London, United Kingdom - National Grid

    Default job background
    Description

    About the role

The North Sea has the potential to be a clean energy 'powerhouse' for Europe.
National Grid plc is an energy company operating in the UK and US. It has a market capitalisation of ~£39 billion and is one of the top 25 FTSE companies, listed on the London Stock Exchange. Part of the National Grid Group, National Grid Ventures (NGV) operates across the UK, Europe and US, developing, operating, and investing in large-scale clean energy infrastructure. We are proud to be a growing, international team and we all have a passion to do our best for our customers, the planet and each other.

As a Strategy Manager, you'll join the European Offshore Development team reporting directly to the Head of European Strategy. The European energy landscape is changing rapidly, and you'll play a key role in supporting the NGV Interconnectors business in defining its strategic direction to enable net zero and drive future growth.

A co-ordinated approach to offshore development is vital and the creation of an integrated North Sea grid will help to take advantage of the rapid growth in offshore wind and strengthen cross-border interconnector links. This role offers an incredible opportunity to join a high-calibre team at the heart of the energy transition.

This role can be based from London or Warwick, and you can enjoy our hybrid working from office and home.

    About you

  • Experience in strategy development and/or execution in large and complex corporate and commercial environments, with an ability to apply a broad set of strategic frameworks to solve real business issues.
  • Broad understanding of the energy sector and regulatory issues affecting the industry and long term internal and external influences.
  • Ability to work with and influence senior leaders and engage effectively at multiple levels across an organisation.
  • Ability to lead and deliver high priority projects.
  • An understanding of the operational and commercial challenges faced by a business.
  • An ability to convey complex strategic ideas and proposals to a wide range of audiences in a structured and logical way, through both written and verbal forms.
  • Comfortable working in a matrix organisation with multiple stakeholders to facilitate cross functional teams which operate collaboratively and innovatively.
  • Ability to challenge entrenched thinking in a constructive manner; a willingness and openness to receiving similar challenge.
  • Ability to coach others to meet their full potential.
  • Educated to Degree level or equivalent.
  • Don't meet every single requirement? Studies have shown that women and people of colour are less likely to apply for jobs unless they meet every single qualification. At National Grid Interconnectors, we are committed to building a diverse, inclusive and authentic workplace for everyone. So, if you're excited about this role but your experience or qualifications don't match the job description exactly, we encourage you to apply anyway. You might just be the right person for our growing business in this role or another one.

    What you'll get

    A competitive salary between £58,000 – £75,000 – dependent on capability.

As well as your base salary, a bonus of up to 15% of your salary for stretch performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%. You will also have access to a number of flexible benefits such as a share incentive plan, technology schemes, support via employee assistance lines and matched charity giving to name a few.

    About us

is pioneering ways to decarbonise the energy system; from building interconnectors to allow the UK to share clean energy with our neighbours in Europe, to investing in renewable energy generation in the United States.
