IT User and Application Support Assistant


Hay & Kilner are a full-service law firm with offices in the heart of Newcastle city centre and in Wallsend Town centre and we are currently expanding our team.


Hay & Kilner provides a comprehensive service across an extensive range of practice areas, which covers all our client's legal requirements.

We are currently recruiting for a User and Application Support Assistant within our IT team. This role is based in our Newcastle city centre office with working also required in our Wallsend office.

On occasions there will be a requirement to travel to and work from other locations for short periods of time.

There will also be occasional out of hours work to support system upgrades or other events.


Successful applicants will report to the IT Manager and will:

  • Work with IT colleagues to provide help desk cover for general IT issues and tasks while also providing in depth support in areas of specialist knowledge.
  • Provide support and assistance to staff in the use of various computer systems.
  • Undertake projects to develop and implement new software products and new features of existing software products.

They will be able to get involved in a variety of matters including:

  • Liaising with 3rd party software providers with regards to problems, as they arise
  • Application (End User) Support
  • Assisting with Liberate, Office 365 and other development
  • Maintaining appropriate levels of technical and procedural documentation
  • Maintaining support and service Levels
  • Providing high quality 'Customer Focused' support in all areas of The Firm's computing environment
  • Helping to resolve help desk calls from colleagues and clients
  • Continually updating skills and knowledge in the latest ICT technologies to ensure that the Firm maintains the level of 'early adopter'

The following skills and experience are relevant:

  • Good general knowledge of IT
  • The ability to logically and effectively problem solve general IT issues in Microsoft Windows, Android and Apple IOS environments

The following skills are desirable:


  • Experience and knowledge of Legal Case Management software
  • Experience and knowledge of Office 365, including SharePoint, Teams, Forms & OneNote
  • Awareness of Cyber security issues.
  • IT qualification.
  • Have a high level of communication and interpersonal skills
  • Be able to explain technical issues clearly to staff who are not technically minded
  • Be able to communicate effectively and efficiently with technical colleagues
  • Have a good eye for detail
  • Be able to handle a variety of concurrent tasks while prioritising appropriately
  • Be a team player
  • Be tenacious in seeing problems through to solution
  • Be flexible and approachable
  • Be able to work in a time critical and fast moving environment while remaining calm and collected
  • To be an advocate of technology and its ability to add value to the business
  • To be able to take responsibility and operate with a minimum of supervision
  • To be a seeker and disseminator of knowledge constantly seeking to learn and pass on that learning

£21,000.00-£24,000.00 per year
