The Company:

Howkins & Harrison LLP is an established firm of property advisers committed to helping our clients in the residential, commercial and rural property sectors.

With a regional network of offices we provide a comprehensive service which encompasses the Midlands region as well as a residential sales agency which is enhanced through our involvement with The London Office.

Our Auction department goes back to our founding days in 1888.

Following the move of Rugby Livestock Sales to Rugby Farmers Mart at Stoneleigh in 2005 our own successful auction department has focused on machinery, on-farm dispersal sales and fodder and produce auctions.

The Role:

As the principal Auctioneer in our auctions team, you will work closely with our Auctions co-ordinator and be involved in a wide variety of sales from traditional on-farm dispersal auctions, collective machinery auctions, fodder and produce sales and online timed auctions.

The role will require you to take on existing clients as well as win new instructions.

The role will be based at our head Rugby office, but your work will cover the whole of the Midlands region aiming to build our successful auctions brand at our other rural offices (Ashby de la Zouch, Towcester and Atherstone).

The types of sales currently undertaken and additional duties are as follows:

  • On Farm Dispersal Sales
  • traditional auctions of farm machinery, equipment and on limited occasions livestock. You will win the instruction, negotiate the terms, agree on a marketing strategy, oversee the preparation of the catalogue, contact prospective buyers, oversee sale day logistics and deal with enquiries or questions after the sale.
  • Collective Machinery Sales onsite auctions of machinery and equipment. You will locate a suitable venue and host, collate entries, and oversee the preparation of the catalogue, contact prospective buyers, oversee sale day logistics and deal with enquiries or questions after the sale.
  • Online Auctions you will be willing to grow our Auction offering by conducting sales of machinery and equipment via our online platform and consider ways for us to diversify and grow our sales calendar.
  • Fodder & Produce Auctions you will collate entries of straw and forage, oversee the preparation of the catalogue, contact prospective buyers, oversee sale day logistics and deal with enquiries or questions after the sale.
  • Grasskeep Auction you will work with the surveyors to collate entries into our annual sale of Grasskeep.
  • Property Auctions you will work with the surveyors to collate entries for inperson or online property auctions (and conduct them if necessary).

  • Valuations

  • Assisting with and carrying out valuations of a variety of machinery or livestock normally for Partnership or Probate.
  • Other work you will be commercially aware of other opportunities of propertybased work that can be delegated or passed on to surveyors or agents within the firm,
