About the Role:


North Avenue Surgery has an opportunity for a receptionist to join our team on a part-time basis for 24 hours per week on Monday and Tuesday 2pm - 6.30pm and Wednesday, Thursday and Fridays 8am - 1pm.


In this essential front-line role at the practice, receptionists help patients to access the right services, assist with keeping health records accurate and up-to-date, and ensure that appointment bookings are well-managed.


The main responsibilities of the role include:

  • Meet & greet patients, members of the public and visitors to the practice in a friendly and courteous manner
  • Direct patients to the appropriate professional
  • Filing of medical notes, letters, test results & other correspondence
  • Register new patients on the computer system
  • Issue repeat prescription on the computer system
  • Assist in the closing & securing of the building at the end of the working day
  • Comply with all in house and statutory Health & Safety procedures
  • Attend practice meetings (one Tuesday a month at 12 noon)
  • Attend training courses in house and externally to develop expertise and further knowledge
  • Carry out general postal and photocopying duties to assist the team to disseminate information effectively.
  • Provide typing and clerical support to the professionals within the team
  • Carry out the required referral procedures relating to computerbased information regarding referrals; input and retrieve information from an electronic data system.

  • The ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of people
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • Ability to deal effectively with telephone calls
  • Must be computer literate, knowledge of SystmOne, Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Good keyboard skills
  • Ability to work with diversity

  • Understand the accuracy when dealing with patient records, both electronic and paper based

  • Understanding of own behaviour and how this impacts on colleagues, patients and visitors
  • Knowledge of SytmOne would be preferable.
Some flexibility is required, as you will sometimes need to work additional or alternative hours to cover for colleagues.
