    Our Lead Data Engineers are responsible for building, testing and maintaining our data assets. The role you will play is crucial to lay the foundation, enabling data scientists and data analysts to create new insights from data.

    As one of our Lead Data Engineers, you will lead the team to deliver robust data services. You will:


    •inspire best practice for data products and services within the team, setting technical standards for the function

    •build data engineering capability by providing technical leadership and career development for the community

    •work with other senior team members to identify, plan, develop and deliver data services

    Some of your responsibilities will include:

    • driving forward improvements in data services including the development and implementation of a new data platform and roll out of platform for analytics and reporting
    • supporting the organisation with ongoing projects from a data perspective
    • defining current processes, facilitating discussions and advising colleagues as to how best practice might be adopted in the definition of future processes, documenting those processes as they are agreed and overseeing their delivery
    • leading the design, development, construction, testing and maintenance of data and processing workflows
    • collating qualitative and quantitative information and leading appropriate analysis to develop robust business cases, and contribute to delivery of 'products' and service improvement

    Some of the skills and experience we're looking for:

    • Extensive knowledge with integration and transformation within Cloud Data Warehouses (e.g Azure, AWS, GCP)
    • Experience with programming languages such as Python, SQL, PySpark, Java
    • Using data engineering expertise to architect the most appropriate solution design to suit a particular requirement or set of requirements
    • Developing and overseeing delivery of test plans in line with Solution Assurance best practice
    • Peer reviewing the code development and testing by others within NHS England
    • Good project management skills, including the ability juggle competing priorities and tight deadlines for self and team, and work autonomously to drive own work programme and that of team members.
