- Collaborating with the product development team to define and deliver the next wave of optical subsystems.
- Evaluating new technologies for future optical components.
- Enhancing and expanding optical link budget/model simulations.
- Engaging with third-party technology suppliers.
- Contributing to the development and implementation of test procedures for optical components/subsystems.
- Creating and updating design documentation and test reports as required.
- Enhancing the company's understanding of optical technologies.
- Degree in Electronic Engineering or Physics with 5+ years of experience in optical/optoelectronic field
- Strong understanding of geometrical optics, optical transmitters, and detector technologies
- Proficiency in designing optical components for communication systems and optoelectronic technologies
- Experience in collaborating with suppliers
- Proficiency in defining technical requirements and design documentation for internal and external purposes
- Experience in prototyping new optical sub-systems for optical communication systems
- Capability of defining technology roadmaps with research and engineering teams
- Experience in optical sub-system modeling using tools like Zemax
- Aptitude for collaborating with engineering and research teams to establish requirements and devise solutions
- Proficiency in lab work for device validation
- Capability to create verification plans and oversee design and test plans thoroughly
- Skilled in characterizing and troubleshooting designs in the lab
- Substantial engineering experience in the photonics or optical device design industry
- Track record of patents in optics or optoelectronics
- Laser safety training and familiarity with relevant optoelectronic standards such as IEC
- Experience with high-volume commercial products

Our client in Edinburgh is expanding their team and is on the lookout for a skilled Optical Design Engineer to come on board. In this role, you will be responsible for defining, specifying, and developing cutting-edge optical and optoelectronic subsystems for the client's products. It will also be part of your role to stay updated on the latest advancements in advanced optics and evaluate device samples as necessary.
