The role:


To assist underwriters to underwrite business in accordance with the business plan with the purpose of underwriting a profitable account on behalf of Aspen in the UK.


Key accountabilities:


  • Be aware of and comply with the FCA
  • Review, negotiate, accept or decline risks on behalf of the company
  • Ensure all business is thoroughly evaluated and rated, and that risks written adhere to the company's underwriting standards and individual authority limits
  • Establish and develop relationships with, and provide an efficient service to, brokers and clients including overseas visits and travel, where necessary
  • Actively participate in the development and execution of the Departmental Business Plan
  • To effectively use Subscribe (inhouse database) e.g. data input, interrogation of data, report generation
  • Assist with developing and modifying Policy Wordings, Clauses and Exclusions as circumstances require and as directed by the team leader
  • Adhere to all relevant Lloyd's guidelines and practices
  • Liaise with other relevant Aspen business and service units to establish, support, and maintain business relationships and achieve departmental and corporate objectives

Additional duties:

  • To act in accordance with and be an advocate for the Aspen Principles and Values
  • Participate and undertake applicable professional, technical and career development training (delivered internally and externally) to include attainment of associated qualifications where required
  • Where applicable ensure company, market and client related documentation is issued (internally and externally) accurately and on time
  • Comply with external and internal regulatory and statutory policies, procedures and regulations.
  • To operate as an effective team member by supporting colleagues and contributing in the delivery and achievement of overall team and business objectives
  • Liaise with relevant and associated areas and groups within the business process to establish, support and maintain business relationships and organisational effectiveness

Skills & experience:


  • Educated to degree level or equivalent standard
  • Completion/progression towards ACII qualification
  • Relevant work experience within the insurance industry
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Presentation skills appropriate for a professional setting
  • Comfortable with technology
  • Adaptable to change in a fluid commercial environment
  • Comfortable working in a team environment
  • Willing to use own initiative within authorised parameters
  • IT Skills: Microsoft packages, database and internet software
  • Able to travel abroad when required
