British Sugar is a home-grown success story and one of the most efficient and competitive beet processers in the world.
Around 3,500 farmers based in East Anglia and the East Midlands supply our four advanced manufacturing sites with eight million tonnes of sugar beet every year.
We, in turn, make this in to over 1 million tonnes of sugar, serving customers across the UK, Ireland and increasingly growing commercially in the EU and world sugar markets.

Job Purpose
British Sugar operates highly automated factories processing around 7 million tonnes of UK grown Sugar Beet. Automation development, continuous improvement is at the heart of our business.
To support the journey we are recruiting a Control Engineer, the scope of the role includes development and maintenance of both hardware and software associated with the Honeywell DCS platform (Experion & TDC) and Siemens S7 PLC and SCADA systems.
Core AccountabilitiesTroubleshooting and practical fault finding on plant and control systems
Installation of new plant or modifications as appropriate
Carry out planned and proactive maintenance activities as required by the DCS system
During maintenance periods undertake maintenance activities as well as testing and commissioning plant in readiness for operations
Reporting all engineering activities in the appropriate format into the Computer Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
Ensuring audit trail of process control changes
Demonstrate the highest personal health and safety standards at all times and work effectively with other team members to carry out the tasks safely and effectively.
Skills, Knowledge & CompetenciesIOSH Working Safely
Comprehensive technical knowledge gained through large scale, complex operational factory experience.
Understanding of hazards and controls associated with a complex industrial environment and producing food and feed.
Extensive experience working within large industrial plants
Extensive knowledge of working with Distributed Control Systems
A proven track record of effective technical problem solving, fault diagnosis and continuous improvement
ONC/HNC in appropriate Engineering skill supported by a recognised apprenticeship or qualification in control engineering
Demonstrable knowledge of Honeywell Control Systems and/or Siemens control systems
High degree of credibility and the ability to effectively communicate across all levels of the factory and the operations function of the business
Demonstrate passion to inspire everyone to do their best, pulls people successfully through critical situations.
