AKTON recruitment is working closely with the local authorities and we are looking for an experienced Youth Worker in the Tower Hamlets area months contract role.

DBS is required for this role.


Tower Hamlets is on the lookout for a Youth Worker who's ready to make a difference in the lives of young people across the borough of Tower Hamlets.

This role will be based in the Exploitation Integrated Detached team which is part of the Exploitation Service.

As a youth worker the requirement of this role is to work 35 hours a week, between the hours of 2pm - 9pm from Monday to Saturday as part of the rota.


The Exploitation Integrated Detach team is a multi-agency approach to harm outside the home and transitional safeguarding which aims to create greater safety and support for young people in the community.


As a Youth Worker, you'll need to have a can-do attitude and a passion for engaging within the community and providing a creative 21st-century youth work offer for children and young people.

We're looking for someone who young people want to be around - approachable, understanding, and able to inspire and motivate them to achieve their goals.


Through establishing positive relationships with young people, the exploitation integrated detached team will develop an understanding of the needs, aspirations, interests and worries of young people with a focus on supporting young people to access services which can help to meet these needs as part of a 'reaching out to bring back' approach.

Also, working in partnership with other services for young people where appropriate to take out specific services and information to young people not accessing those services to help reduce harm.


Here are the key responsibilities of the role:

  • To promote and safeguard the welfare of young people.
  • To support and work in partnerships to maximise the opportunities for young people.
  • Working directly with young people to support their personal and social development, improved emotional wellbeing and resilience and reduce barriers to access positive life choices, learning and employment and prevent escalation to specialist services.
  • To promote and develop the active involvement of young people in the design and evaluation of services and ensure young people have voice and influence, actively seek their views support their decision making.
  • To promote and develop the voice and influence of young people and to actively seek their views and support their decision making.
  • To work with colleagues from a range of services, as part of the locality Early Help Delivery Model, to improve outcomes for young people.
  • To ensure that risks are minimised, and that risks and safety issues are reported to the Senior Youth Work Lead.
  • Acts as a champion for young people's participation, voice and influence and promoting a positive profile of young people.
We're also looking for someone who meets the following requirements:

  • Some experience in youth work or a willingness to develop professionally.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lead, motivate and develop a team.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and work under pressure.
  • A commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required.

Qualifications & Experience

  • A recognised JNC Youth Work Qualification (NVQ 2 or equivalent.
  • Willingness and ability to obtain a youth work qualification and training for development in the post within six months.
  • Building positive relationships with young people.
  • Working in and developing partnerships
  • Experience of work in an inner urban area, with complex social needs and disadvantage.
  • Developing targeted youth work which meets the needs of vulnerable young people
  • Involving young people in service design, delivery, and feedback.
