    Applications are invited for a 12 months fixed-term wte ( Principal Clinical Psychologist role (Band 8b) at the South London and Maudsley (SLaM) NHS Foundation Trust. The post is an exciting opportunity to be part of the award-winning Psychological Interventions Clinic for oUtpatients with Psychosis (PICuP) based at the Maudsley Hospital.

    The successful candidate will have a Doctorate in Clinical or Counselling Psychology, will be HCPC registered, and will have worked as a Band 8a in adult mental health as a senior specialist practitioner. Interest and experience in working with clients with psychosis/bipolar disorder and their carers using a broad CBT framework is essential, as is experience of providing expert supervision and training to other mental health professionals. We are particularly seeking candidates who have expertise in the provision of evidenced-based trauma-focused interventions for psychosis and who have the following:

    (a) Specialist interest and experience in a 'niche' area related to psychosis, both in terms of therapy and training provision (such as evidenced-based trauma-focused interventions for psychosis)

    (b) Experience of being a therapist in a randomised controlled trial (RCT) of CBT/FI for psychosis and/or having completed a post-qualification Postgraduate Diploma in CBT for psychosis/Severe Mental Illness

    (c) Having academic publications in an area related to psychological interventions in psychosis

    Main duties of the job

    Your role will primarily include:

  • Facilitating specialist CBT for Psychosis (CBTp) and Trauma-focused CBTp (Tf-CBTp) supervision groups nationally (for NHS and academic courses) and potentially internationally (via MS Teams).
  • Listening to and rate supervisees session recordings according to standard CBT ratings scales ( CTRS, C-PAS).
  • Contributing to enabling other staff, service users and carers from diverse backgrounds to flourish by working to create a psychologically safe environment.
  • There may also be opportunities to be involved with the following:

  • Supporting dissemination of evidence-based psychological therapies including providing specialist training in an area of expertise related to psychological interventions in psychosis and related emotional problems in SLaM, other NHS trusts, and nationally/internationally.
  • Delivering individual cognitive behavioural therapy (and family intervention) to clients with ongoing distressing symptoms of psychosis, bipolar disorder and/or secondary emotional difficulties (especially trauma), and their carers. This will include specialist assessment, treatment, planning, implementation and monitoring of outcomes.

    The Psychological Interventions Clinic for oUtpatients with Psychosis (PICuP) is an award-winning specialist psychology service, established in 1999, providing cognitive-behaviour therapy (CBT) and family interventions (FI) for individuals with distressing psychotic experiences, as well as additional or secondary mental health difficulties.

    PICuP is a specialist psychology service, hosted by Croydon Operational Directorate (but located at the Maudsley Hospital), working across all 4 SLaM boroughs and the South East environs. It is a national service and also takes referrals from around London, the South East and nationally, although most of the referrals are from SLaM.

    PICuP offers a peer support service to people referred to the team. PICuP is also involved in training mental health professionals in specialist CBT, Tf-CBT and FI for psychosis skills.

    PICuP is entirely psychology-led. It was established in 1999 following a randomised controlled trial in CBT for psychosis. The clinic was founded by Prof Elizabeth Kuipers, is headed by Prof. Emmanuelle Peters, and is operationally managed by Dr Nadine Keen.

  • Doctoral level qualification in clinical or counselling psychology or equivalent. (A/I)

  • Evidence of having worked as a Band 8a in adult mental health, as a senior specialist practitioner, under supervision (A/I)

  • Experience of providing specialist teaching and training to psychologists and/or other professional groups. (A/I)
  • Experience of providing specialist supervision groups to psychologists and/or other professional groups.
  • At least one of the following areas of expertise/experience, and more than one would be desirable publications, exp being trial therapist or 'niche' area of expertise
