- An honours degree and/or post-graduate degree in ecology or a related discipline.
- Evidence of a continuing commitment to personal and professional development.
- Membership of a relevant professional body, i.e. the Chartered Institute for Ecologists.
- A minimum of 5 years practical experience working in a similar role.

JobPurpose: You will be the primary point of contact within the Council for all matters relating to ecology.
You will lead the provision of ecological advice to the planning service, developers and agents on a range of development proposals to secure the best outcomes for biodiversity in accordance with relevant legislation, policy and guidance. You will manage a small team of Ecology Officers ensuring the consistent and proportionate assessment of planning applications, including the review and approval of technical and specialist reports, recommendation of suitable planning conditions and mitigation strategies and the delivery of positive improvements for biodiversity.
You will lead on policy development on matters relating to biodiversity, be responsible for developing and delivering nature networks and prepare responses to local and national consultations as required. You will liaise with both local and national partners and stakeholders and respond to relevant enquiries from Council services, elected Members, developers (including statutory undertakers) and the public.
