Job summary:

The Ministry of Defence Police (MDP) are an independent constabulary reporting to the Secretary of State. Their primary role is armed policing of defence and other critical national infrastructure including nuclear sites. With civilian support staff they are nearly 3,000 strong. MDP HQ is in RAF Wyton, Essex with key sites across the UK.


The Professional Standards Department (PSD) is directly responsible for the management of Public Complaints and Misconduct Allegations made against serving members of MDP.


The Business Management Improvement and Learning team is a small vital hub that supports the functions within the Professional Standards Department with responsibilities for complaint and conduct case recording via the Centurion database, Management of Reflective Practice and Learning workstreams, PSD related policy and guidance, governance reporting including risk management, action plans, internal performance reporting, data responses to include FOI and SAR and administration support to the department as a whole.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.


Job description:


  • Case building and data input on the Centurion database for all PSD matters and complaint and conduct matters; Monitor PSD Group mailbox and record data on a daily basis, create and build case files ensuring data compliance
  • Utilise the database and workflow groups to address priority casework and timelines; to liaise with PSD colleagues regarding administrative actions and casework; obtain case updates ensuring cases are progressed in accordance with timelines.
  • To timely close case file ensuing that the file is prepared for quarterly inspection.
  • To update personal data on Centurion databases monthly reflecting all HR changes as drawn from internal databases systems (My HR).
  • To undertake data search checks on the Centurion database providing results to Disclosure and Barring Security.
  • Assisting in the management of issuing and recording Reflective Practice and lessons identified within PSD cases.
  • Managing the review retention and disposal process, issuing cases to review officers, recording results and liaison with Restore in relation to retention and disposal.
  • General administrative duties in support of the department, such as opening and recording of post, departmental point of contact with the Building Manager, departmental H&S, booking pool and hire vehicles, hotels etc.
  • To support the investigators in the preparation and delivery of misconduct proceedings (and Police Appeal Tribunals(UPP)) to include undertaking the administrative arrangements such as making bookings for all parties (GLD, Panel, Witness any other relevant person), facilities and refreshments.
  • To support the investigators in preparing proceedings files (investigation report, statements, exhibits etc) ensuring that they meet disclosure and GDPR policy and guidelines
  • To attend hearings where necessary undertaking the role of usher.
  • To carry out post proceeding actions, recording results on Centurion, preparing case for closure, reviewing, and destroying any hard copy documentation, processing claims, being EPC holder for the department.
  • Providing support to other PSD teams and colleagues undertaking administrative taskings as required and other duties relevant to the role as directed by Head of PSD.
