    Job Description: Senior Manager, Sustainability and Social Impact

    As the Senior Manager of Sustainability and Social Impact you will play a pivotal role in building the Sustainability and ESG capabilities and capacities across Rakuten International. This role will be responsible for managing our global strategic initiatives related to sustainability and social impact, with a near-term focus on the development, data collection and disclosure reporting of Rakuten Interantional's performance with regards to sustainability / ESG.

    The role will report directly to the Director of Sustainability and Social Impact and will work closely with team members within the Legal, Compliance, Finance, Procurement, Audit, HR, and Communications departments.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Drive the project management of ESG data and information capture across Rakuten International for both internal and external reporting purposes; including CSRD, ESRS, and TCFD
    • Research and identify ongoing ESG policy developments, industry standards, and regulations and create materials to facilitate cross-departmental education and awareness
    • Coordinate sustainability / ESG initiatives with internal stakeholders and external agencies
    • Collaborate and align with Rakuten International departments and divisions and support the integration of Sustainability and ESG initiatives within individual Business Units
    • Manage sustainability certification training and reporting process across different Business Units within the group

    Minimum Requirements (Knowledge, Skills, and Experience)

    • A mix of education and experience relevant to the job's key responsibilities
    • At least 2 years of experience in the sustainability / ESG field in either corporate or consulting setting and min. 5 years of professional work experience overall
    • Knowledge of current and upcoming ESG regulations and industry trends
    • Highly organized and detail-oriented with a strong command of project management and facilitating multiple stakeholder data collection and reporting initiatives
    • Strong presentation and negotiation skills for potent cross-cultural and multifunctional cooperation
    • Experience with Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel, with willingness to expand on skillset
    • Demonstrable impact working both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced global matrix environment
    • Strong English written and verbal communication, other languages seen as an advantage

    Beneficial Skills and Experience

    • Direct experience in sustainability / ESG reporting (e.g., SASB, GRI and GHG reporting) within a corporate or consulting environment
    • Experience working at group level of a multi-national corporation
    • Proficiency in Japanese is considered a plus

    Location

    • This is a hybrid role with three days a week required in office
    • Office location of London preferred, although Luxembourg and Barcelona office assignment will be considered
