Teacher of Music - Shepperton, United Kingdom - Halliford School
Description
About the role
The position of Music Teacher offers an exciting opportunity for a talented individual. The successful applicant, whether an NQT or experienced teacher, should bring enthusiasm and passion to inspire students across Year 7 to Year 13.
The Music Department is currently staffed by a full-time Director of Music, a part-time teacher of Music and a part-time teacher of Music Technology. There are also 10 peripatetic members of staff who work part-time to teach instrumental and singing lessons. The department is well-equipped with a purpose-built, galleried Recital Room with a baby grand piano, a Music Technology suite with 13 iMacs, a dedicated Recording Studio running Logic Pro X and a Practical/Performance Room with a class set of keyboards, djembes and samba drums. The department also contains a selection of practice rooms, including a dedicated Drum Room. Many concert performances take place in the school's John Crook Theatre.
Music is compulsory for all Key Stage 3 students and is offered as GCSE and A Level options following the Edexcel specifications. We also offer Music Technology as an A level option, again following the Edexcel specification. In 2023, Music GCSE achieved 100% 9-5 and Music A Level achieved 100% A*- A. The department participates heavily in the school's co-curricular programme, with Orchestra, Year 7 Choir, Chamber Choir, Jazz Band, String Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, Brass Ensemble, Piano Ensembles, Barbershop, Composition Club, Music Theory Club, Music Technology Club, and multiple Rock Bands all on offer for the students.
Halliford School supports a Music Scholarship scheme and offers an extensive concert program with the Inter-House Singing Competition, a Winter Concert, Carol Singing, Parent and School Carol Services, a Battle of the Bands, a Young Musician Competition, a Summer Concert, an Easter Service, multiple lunchtime concerts and a biennial School Musical in partnership with the Drama Department. The Music Department also offers trips to recording studios, classical concerts, West End musicals and an international trip for the Orchestra and Chamber Choir.
Salary
The post holder will be paid on the appropriate point of the Halliford School Teacher's Pay Scale. We have our own pay scale, which is significantly competitive and well above the maintained sector.
Lines of Responsibility The Teacher of Music is directly responsible to the Director of Music on curriculum matters and the relevant Head of House for pastoral issues.
Key Responsibilities
The basic duties of a teacher are outlined in the Staff Handbook and include the role of form tutor, although currently part-time staff are not form tutors. All members of staff are expected to contribute to the rich co-curricular life of the school.
Conditions of Employment The post-holder must uphold the School's policy in respect of all matters related to Safeguarding and Child Protection. The above responsibilities are subject to the general duties and responsibilities in the written statement of conditions of employment (The Contract of Employment). The post-holder is required to support and encourage the School's ethos and its objectives, policies and procedures as agreed by the Headmaster and Governing Body. The post-holder would also be expected to carry out any other duties that are reasonably assigned by the Headmaster.
