We are looking for an Inspection Technical Authority - Lifting to join our Inspection Services Team in Aberdeen, UK.


The main purpose of the role is to fully support and assist the Global Inspection Services Manager in the creation, review and updates of the integrity management policies, procedures, processes, and accreditations in relation to lifting equipment inspections.

Responsible for the creation, management, upkeep, and routine audit of LOLER Examination Schemes.

Responsible Technical Manager - Lifting to ensure these services are carried out in accordance with Inspection Body (IB) UKAS accreditation to ISO/IEC This role will also act as the Deputy Technical Manager - NDT.


Main responsibilities

  • Ensure global compliance with company ISO certifications and accreditations and offer technical support and guidance to department in relation to Lifting Equipment thorough examinations
  • Manage the data, accuracy and technical content of management and lifting equipment inspection forms and procedures on Sparrows Integrated Management Systems (SIMS) and the ensure the document register is kept up to date
  • Liaise directly with regional offices for local requirements and variations to meet local inspection compliance
  • Assist the Global Inspection Services Manager in preparing for client, technical and internal audits to ensure adherence to policies, procedures, and processes
  • Assist the Global Inspection Services Manager with inspection Invitation to Tenders for lifting equipment scopes
  • Provide inspection personnel and other department Engineers with technical input for queries related to lifting equipment compliance, defect acceptance criteria, evaluation and decision making
  • Develop, manage, upkeep and auditing of clients lifting equipment examination schemes
  • Produce all written documents in compliance with applicable regulations, standards and client requirements with regards to examination schemes and the inservice thorough examination of lifting equipment
  • Manage the technical competence, training, development, monitoring, mentoring and subsequent authorisation of lifting equipment examiners.

HSEQ responsibilities

  • It is mandatory that the incumbent is familiar with the Company's HSEQ Policy and takes an active role in the compliance and improvement of Sparrows Integrated Management System. The incumbent must report any incidents, near misses, actual or potential problems with products, services or systems to their Line Manager.
  • The incumbent also has legal responsibilities under countryspecific health and safety legislation to follow all Company processes and procedures and familiarise themselves with the emergency response arrangements applicable to them. The incumbent is also responsible for the health and safety arrangements of subordinates (if any) and for any persons visiting them while on the Company premises.

Qualifications and experience

  • Min. 10 years' experience and proven track record of lifting equipment inspection (offshore and industrial sectors) or equivalent
  • Min. UKAS RG6 qualification category 1 or 2, i.e., professional registration as an Incorporated or Chartered Engineer
  • Proven knowledge of U.K. legislative requirements (HASAWA, LOLER, PUWER, MCA etc.).
  • Proven knowledge of local industry standards, guidance, and accreditations (BS, EN, ISO, HSE)
  • Proven knowledge of international industry standards and guidance (ILO, NATA, API, ASME)
  • Proven track record in the development, implementation, and management of examination schemes
  • ISO/IEC 17020:2012 Awareness training
  • Recognised competence assessor certification
  • LEEA: Diplomas and/ or Advanced Programmes, i.
e., LEG, LMM, LMP, OTC, RCS, MCE, OCE etc.

  • Industry recognised safety qualification e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH etc. (Desirable)
  • Underpinning knowledge of the various NDT techniques together with relevant PCN / ASNT qualifications, e.g., MT, PT, EC, UT etc. (Desirable)
  • Experience in fast paced work environment
  • Ability to work under pressure and to deadline
  • Ability to prioritise work independently and change priorities to meet operational demand
  • Other soft skills should include: first class communication skills / highly personable / tenacious / pragmatic / assertive / confident.
