Description
As a Gardener for the National Trust, you'll be a hands-on member of the garden team, involved in every aspect of gardening at Kingston Lacy Estate. Responsible for day-to-day maintenance, and the highest standards of horticulture, you'll also play a vital role in improving the experience of visitors to the garden and wider estate.
You may be asked to work occasional weekends, bank holidays and evenings.
You'll be reporting to the Head Gardener, working in a team of 6 gardeners and over 30 volunteers, at Kingston Lacy House, Wimborne. Dorset. Kingston Lacy is a lavish family home re-imagined as a Venetian Palace in the rural Dorset countryside. Kingston Lacy has a dynamic history. Over centuries the Bankes family built, altered, embellished and rebuilt their house.
The outstanding art collection is one of the main attractions to this beautiful Italian-inspired mansion. As one of the National Trust's 'treasure houses', the 45 strong team have exciting times ahead as they embark on major conservation projects to preserve this 8,500 estate and its rare collection of artefacts. A Japanese garden and tearoom and community growing spaces are also among the key attractions at Kingston Lacy. The property has a rural location, so it's likely you will require your own transport to get here.
You'll be helping to keep the garden in tiptop condition every day. This might involve daily checks to make sure all areas are safe for people visiting, routine tasks such as weeding, pruning and mulching, and using machinery such as hedge cutters, leaf blowers, lawnmowers and tractors.
Other duties might include propagation, cutting flowers for the house, preparing plants for sale, tree safety work and garden design and restoration. You may be involved in recycling and managing waste, along with the rest of the garden team.
