    We have an exciting opportunity on Snow Leopard for applicants who are highly motivated, keen to learn and extend nursing skills with excellent communication skills who will enjoy working with long term patients who require specialised tracheostomy, ventilation or neurorehabilitation care.

    Our nurses have the opportunity to gain a wide range of experience whilst being supported by senior nursing team, respiratory and neurorehabilitation multidisciplinary teams and clinical education team.

    You will gain skills in troubleshooting different types of home ventilators and supporting families in achieving their confidence and competence in looking after their children with complex needs.

    Main duties of the job The post holder is responsible for assessment of care needs of patients, planning programmes of care, implementation and evaluation of these specialist nursing procedures without direct supervision. At times they will have management responsibility of supervising junior members of staff and gaining in-charge experience.

    Snow Leopard Ward provides a unique service looking after children requiring Long Term Ventilation, Neurorehabilitation or are under the Sleep Medicine Department.

    Long Term Ventilation consist of 6 beds and as a unit we pride ourselves on creating a Home from Home environment, helping to ease the move from hospital to home for long-term ventilated children and their families.

    Neurorehabilitation have 2 dedicated beds, offering a programme of inpatient rehabilitation to children and young people up to 16 years of age with acquired brain and spinal cord injuries. Our focus is to develop or regain skills to minimise the impact of a brain or spinal cord injury on their everyday life.

    The post holder will be will be working independently/autonomously, accountable for their own professional actions and ensuring the safety and wellbeing of services users whilst always working in a manner that promotes dignity and human rights through adopting person centred care principles. Job description Job responsibilities If you have what it takes to be an amazing Snow Leopard Nurse and join our team you will be expected to be:
      • Responsible for carrying out clinical practice within designated clinical areas, ensuring that high quality, current evidence-based nursing assessment, care planning, implementation, interventions and evaluations for patients is provided from admission through to discharge.
      • Responsible for the application of knowledge across the range of work procedures and practices, underpinned by theoretical knowledge and practical experience.
      • An advocate for patients within the area, to ensure a patient orientated approach to the delivery of care and to meet standards within the NHS Plan and other relevant guidelines.
      • Ensuring that patients receive high quality clinical care and a good patient experience, having regard for their customs, religious beliefs and doctrines.
      • Able to recognise and avoid situations that may be detrimental to the health and wellbeing of the individuals.
      • Will advise on the promotion of health and the prevention of illness.
      • Recognising the significance of observations made, and use them to develop and initiate nursing assessments and devise a plan of care.
      • Carrying out those activities necessary to conduct a comprehensive assessment of a persons nursing requirements.
      • Ensuring that all patients will have a discharge plan that is safe and appropriate for their needs.
      • Carrying out nursing procedures and treatments, checking on and maintaining the highest possible standards.
      • Working alongside the multi-disciplinary team to ascertain treatments and advise on nursing priorities.
      • Taking a clear and concise history from patients by assessing their health and wellbeing and complete documentation ensuring that all entries are accurate and legible and that all information systems are maintained.
      • Undertaking prescribed physical observations as follows: blood pressure, temperature, respirations, blood sugars, urinalysis, weight and height, and report exceptions appropriates.
      • Responsible for the correct administration of prescribed medication.

    Person Specification Education/ Qualifications Essential
    • RN1/ RN2/ RN12 or RN Child Registered Nurse on the NMC register. To hold the appropriate level for the area of speciality.
    • Evidence of continuing professional development

    • Relevant qualifications required or course to area
    Previous experience Essential
    • Experience of working on own and in a team
    • Experience of working in the relevant area (LTV/trache)
    • Clinical Support of junior staff (Band 3 SNA and newly qualified nurses)
    • Completion of Mentorship qualification
    Desirable
    • Previous experience in other nursing fields
    • Completion of preceptorship
    Skills/Knowledge/ Ability Essential
    • Able to assess, plan, implement & evaluate programmes of care
    • Up to date knowledge of current clinical and professional issues.
    • Knowledge of Evidence Based Practice
    • Competent in basic life support
    • Able to work as an effective team member
    • Able to prioritise patient care and manage working time effectively
    • Able to manage difficult situations and navigate conflict resolution
    • Uses own initiative and is able to take decisions
    • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
    • Knowledge of the NMC Code of Professional Conduct
