This post is for a Foundation Year 3 in General Paediatrics based at Epsom Hospital on a 6 month contract which can be extended.

This post is based at Epsom General Hospital. The appointees will however work closely with colleagues on all sites.


The post holder will be a part of the Junior Grade Paediatric team based at Epsom General Hospital, taking part in the on-call and out of hours rota as part of a full shift system that is fully EWTD-compliant.


During this post the successful applicant will rotate through work in the General Paediatrics Ward, Paediatric ED, the Paediatric Day Case Unit and on the Level 1 NNU.

It is anticipated the postholder will continue to develop their skills and experience in all aspects of General Paediatrics and Neonatology throughout the duration of the post.


An attending system is operated at EGH where each week a Consultant is responsible for all acute paediatric and neonatal admissions and performs a twice daily ward round.

This provides continuity as well as direct support and training for the junior staff. There is Consultant cover on site until 10pm daily.


The postholder will also have the opportunity to attend specialist paediatric clinics in Cardiology, Neurology, Haematology, Genetics, Child Development, Epilepsy, CF, Diabetes, Endocrinology and Respiratory Medicine.


In addition the post holder will have access to the full range of Educational and Training opportunities available to all current junior grade staff, including a dedicated weekly Teaching afternoon, journal club and x ray meeting and perinatal meetings.

There is a 3 monthly Quality half day across the Department, when clinics are cancelled to enable attendance.


The postholder will have a named Consultant as an Educational Supervisor, supporting clinical assessments such as Case-Based Discussions, Directly Observed Clinical procedures and MiniCEX.

In addition support and training will be offered to those taking postgraduate examinations. Yearly reviews will be carried out as part of Revalidation.


St Helier Hospital is home to the South West Thames Renal and Transplantation Unit and Queen Mary's Hospital for Children, while Epsom Hospital is home to the South West London Elective Orthopaedic Centre (SWLEOC).

Both Epsom and St Helier hospitals have Accident and Emergency departments (A&E) and Maternity services (Obstetrics).


We also play an active role in the local healthcare economy, and are the lead provider in two innovative health and care partnerships.


We have partnered with CSH Surrey, the three GP federations in the Surrey Downs area, and Surrey Council (who are an associate member), to provide adult community health services.

This innovative partnership is called Surrey Downs Health and Care.


In Sutton, we have joined forces with the London Borough of Sutton, Sutton GP Services and South West London and St George's Mental Health Trust to provide adult and children's community health services and sexual health services to local people.

Together, we are called Sutton Health and Care.
