    Description

    We are looking for a highly motivated Senior Occupational Therapist to join our Stroke Team who is passionate about delivering high quality, patient centred care.

    Assist Therapy Team Leader and Band 7 Stroke Therapy Team in the planning, co-ordinating, delivering and evaluating the Therapy service provided to patients within stroke service on a day-to-day basis.

    To manage a clinical specialist caseload in the therapy field using evidence-based assessments, treatment and discharge planning to patients within the clinical speciality.

    To work as part of an MDT and provide highly specialised therapy advice to members of the MDT.
    To deputise for the Band 7 Occupational Therapist on clinical and managerial duties within the team.

    Our Therapy service is a dynamic and exciting team that works across our three main site at the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford, Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Hospital in Margate and Kent and Canterbury Hospital in Canterbury, as well as supporting patients across our satellite sites.


    We form part of close MDT working on all the wards and the therapy team are key team members in the rehabilitation of patients and discharge planning.

    The Stroke service at Kent and Canterbury gives a great breadth of knowledge and skills across the acute and rehab pathways & strives to provide an exceptional standard of care as evident in the National SSNAP audit programme, which rates the service as an A.

    We strive to offer a supportive environment for our staff and regularly run Band 6 In-Service training from supporting literature research to developing knowledge and up to date practice.

    We offer a fantastic opportunity to move between the Hyper-acute stroke and the early stroke rehabilitation ward.

    We work closely with our regional colleagues, as part of the Kent and Medway Integrated Stroke Delivery Network, to share good practice and to shape the future of our services in line with national recommendations.

    The successful candidate must have previous experience of working within an inpatient hospital setting and with neurologically impaired patients. Minimum of 18 months post graduate experience in relevant clinical area
    Proven record of providing high quality intervention for high risk patients
    Experience of Working with stroke/neurologically impaired patients as a Band 5

    Involvement in audit/service development projects
    Complex/ multifactorial discharge planning including home assessment and environmental set up
    Awareness of professional issues and recent developments in the NHS and Primary Care including Clinical Governance, NICE and CQC
    Flexible and adaptable
    Ability to prioritise care delivery in a professional manner, taking into account Trust policies and procedures.
    Able to travel around East Kent, and between Trust hospital sites

    Valid UK Driving Licence
