    Job summary

    The aim of the NHS Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) Screening Programme is to reduce deaths from AAA through early detection, appropriate monitoring and treatment. The Central England AAA Screening Programme provides community based screening for the population of Birmingham, Solihull, Sandwell and East Staffordshire. All men are invited to their local hospital, GP Surgery or health clinic in the year that they turn 65 for an ultrasound scan to see if they have an AAA.

    The Central England AAA screening programme are looking to recruit a Clinical Skills Trainer to join our small, friendly team. This post is hours per week.

    We are looking for a Vascular Scientist/Sonographer who holds a CASE-accredited qualification or full SVT accreditation to join our team. You will be responsible for the clinical training and supervision of new and existing Screening Technicians, ensuring that ultrasound scanning is performed to a high standard and in accordance with national standard operating procedures.

    Main duties of the job

    You will be responsible for the clinical training and supervision of new and existing Screening Technicians, ensuring that ultrasound scanning is performed to a high standard and in accordance with national standard operating procedures.

    In addition to regularly reviewing the images gained by Screening Technicians, you will attend screening clinics in the community to complete clinical assessments and to offer training and support to the screeners.

    You will be required to complete the national training for Clinical Skills Trainers, which includes clinical assessor training.

    Qualifications

    Essential

  • Postgraduate diploma or certificate in general abdominal or vascular ultrasound or equivalent relevant CASE/SVTG accredited qualification
  • HCPC registration
  • Experience

    Essential

  • Good understanding of abdominal cross sectional autonomy and specifically relating to the abdominal aorta
  • Experience in undertaking sonographic examinations unsupervised and preparing appropriate reports
  • Sound technical knowledge
  • Ability to clearly and accurately convey skills required to undertake sonographic examination and diagnosis of certain conditions of the vascular system
  • Extensive experience of training others in the workforce, especially those without prior experience
  • Understanding of hospital environment and patient care and confidentiality
  • Understanding of commonly used medical terminology
