Job summary:


We are seeking to recruit a Health Protection Practitioner to work as part of the North West Region health protection team in our Cheshire and Merseyside team.


We are looking for Environmental Health Practitioners, Registered General Nurses or Allied Health Care Professionals who are seeking to develop their role within the field of health protection.

You will be a good communicator, able to work in a team and be prepared to take on responsibility, as appropriate


The post holder will undergo a programme of on-going professional development and education to build on existing knowledge and develop skills to provide specialist health protection advice and meet competencies required to undertake the role.


Job description:


The post holder will be responsible under the direction of the Senior Health Protection Practitioner for responding to a range of day-to-day health protection issues as part of our acute response service in the investigation and control of infectious disease and other threats to health.


The Health Protection Practitioner will be required to interpret protocol and guidance, communicating advice to a range of stakeholders', while sometimes needing to negotiate and influence sensitive decision making on an individual and organisational level.

The North West health protection team operates Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm and provides an out-of-hours on-call duty service at all other times.

The post holder will participate, following appropriate training, in the on-call rota, for which financial remuneration is provided as per terms and conditions of contract.

The frequency of on call the post holder will undertake is based on service needs, expected to be >1:6 and <13.

Therefore, suitably qualified clinical applicants will be employed on NHS terms and conditions and will be able to join the NHS Pension Scheme; other applicants who do not meet the clinical criteria will be employed on Civil Service terms and conditions.
