UE06 £31,396 to £36,024 per annum (A revised salary range for this grade of £32,982 to £38,205 is planned to take effect from Spring 2024)

**Full Time - 35 Hours Per Week

Working as a key member of the Online Course Production (OCP) Service, this fixed term Digital Engagement Officer post plays a critical part in supporting the delivery of strategic marketing projects that enable the University to promote its established portfolio of short online courses and online masters degrees.

This is an exciting opportunity for a pro-active and dynamic digital marketer to promote online learning to a global market and to work with some of the world's largest online learning platforms.

You will join a team of 3 marketers who report to the Online Learning Marketing Project Manager.

You will work closely with colleagues in the Online Course Production Service which includes instructional designers, media producers, marketers, and project managers as well as with academic course teams.

Our team works in a hybrid style, with a minimum of 2 days a week in the office at Argyle House, 3 Lady Lawson Street in central Edinburgh.


What the job involves:


  • Creating and developing highquality digital content for channels including websites and social media channels (Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter). Producing digital content such as graphics, simple animations, short videos, trailer scripts and other audiovisual outputs. Planning and executing digital marketing campaigns, liaising with media agency where appropriate.
  • Planning, developing and implementing the Online Course Production team's social media and website presence. Defining calendar milestones, planning activity and scheduling content. Analysing and reporting on data and insights relating to our digital channels; preparing reports and making recommendations for improvements to existing channels, possible new channels and streamlined processes.

A typical day might include:

Drafting and sending communications to learners:Finding ways to engage our existing learner base to drive them to take another short course or sign up for an online masters degree.

Social media review:We've got to keep feeding our hungry social media channels plus there's the challenge of battling the algorithms to ensure our content gets seen. You might analyse previous post performance or spend some time spying on the competition.

Co-host an open day live session:Assist at or host a live online session to promote online degrees.

Measuring and reporting:Reviewing and analysing data from our partner learning platforms to see which channels have been most effective at driving enrolments.

A bit about you:


  • A team player with a degree, equivalent qualification, or relevant work experience.
  • Digital marketing experience and the ability to adapt to a rapidly evolving medium.
  • Experience of managing social media accounts and content creation calendars.
  • Experience of using a wide range of software packages and tools.
  • Practical experience in using data analytics to inform decisions
