    Job summary

    As part of increased collaboration between Pharmacy and the Trust Research & Development team, a new Lead Pharmacist (Clinical Trials & Quality Assurance) post has been created. We are looking for an enthusiastic Pharmacist with a critical eye to join our expanding team within the Pharmacy Department at Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

    You will be responsible for leading the Pharmacy Clinical Trials service at the LDH site, working with colleagues within the department and clinical service lines to deliver and develop CTIMP research activity, providing a high quality service to healthcare professionals and to patients as well as being involved in the transformation of the service in accordance with the Pharmacy and R&D strategy.

    You will also be responsible for the training of staff and work closely with colleagues at the Bedford Hospital site as required to align our pharmacy processes and systems.

    Main duties of the job

  • Deliver, develop and evaluate pharmacy services where Clinical Trial of an Investigational Medicinal Product (CTIMP) is involved
  • Provide specialist input and advising on pharmaceutical aspects of service provision to clinical trials, unlicensed medicines and quality assurance
  • Act as the Lead Pharmacist managing the Pharmacy Clinical Trials service and providing an interface with the R&D Senior Management Team
  • Ensure the Pharmacy Clinical Trials service is compliant with all relevant legislation and Good Practice recommendations, including the portfolio of pharmacy staff actively engaging in the running of any trial
  • Support the pharmacy procurement team in the safe receipt and onward supply of unlicensed medicines
  • Lead on all quality assurance (QA) work streams within the pharmacy department across all sites including document control and compliance
  • Act as the lead for temperature monitoring of medicines across the estates at Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

    Essential

  • Pharmacy degree (Masters level)
  • Registration as a pharmacist with the GPhC
  • Post graduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent
  • Demonstrates continual professional development
  • Desirable

  • Member of the RPS (Stage 1 faculty member)
  • Stage 1 Faculty Member (MIFRPS)
  • GCP trained
  • Independent Prescriber
  • Project Management qualification
  • Train the Trainer / Incident Trainer qualification
  • Medical Gases training certification
  • Experience and Knowledge

    Essential

  • Validated expertise of medicines supply and clinical pharmacy in hospital setting
  • Experience of project management and leading change
  • Experience of using IT systems to support clinical activities
  • Understanding the need of confidentiality awareness at all times
  • Awareness of, and ability to demonstrate implementation in practice of, GMP, GDP and GCP
  • Knowledge and understanding of medicines legislation and governance
  • Able to articulate the elements of a Quality Management System
  • Awareness of current development in research related to CTIMP studies
