    Are you eager to be inspired by the influence of education? Do you possess the abilities to lead a well-established board of governors? A school located in Wimborne is seeking a capable volunteer to spearhead school enhancement by taking on the role of chair of governors. What will your responsibilities entail? Governing bodies are accountable for the strategic management of a school and are tasked with making decisions on a wide array of issues. Some of the key responsibilities include ensuring accountability, offering support and constructive criticism to the senior leadership team, monitoring and assessing the school's progress, managing budget allocation, shaping plans for school improvement, setting the school's objectives and values, and appointing senior staff members including the Head Teacher. A school's governing body comprises representatives from the school, parents, and the local community. What qualities are we searching for? This position is at a Middle C of E School catering to ages 9-13. Ideally, we are looking for an individual with experience in strategic-level leadership and/or change management across various industries. However, we encourage candidates with diverse skill sets and experiences to apply. While being above 18 is a requirement, it is not necessary to be a parent or have school-aged children. External perspectives can often offer the fresh outlook that a school requires. Professional backgrounds in areas such as safeguarding, change management, and leadership, as well as soft skills like communication and problem-solving, are highly valuable to a school. What impact can you make? Governors make decisions that have long-lasting effects on schools. As a Chair of Governors, you will collaborate with Head Teachers and the Senior Management Team to ensure the delivery of top-notch education, aiding children in achieving their aspirations. Our recent survey shows that our volunteers contribute £9.9 million in value to schools annually, with 9 out of 10 volunteers endorsing the governor role to others. As a chair of governors, you will be encouraged to visit the school to familiarize yourself with its ethos and culture and witness the direct impact of your contributions by interacting with children, parents, and teachers. As a member of the governing board, you will receive support from the vice chairs and the clerk to ensure the board operates effectively and remains focused on its core functions.
