The Organisation:

The Royal Parks (TRP) is a charity created in March 2017.

We manage over 5,000 acres of diverse parkland, rare habitats and historic buildings and monuments in eight Royal Parks across London.

These are Hyde Park, Kensington Gardens, The Green Park, St James's Park, The Regent's Park and Primrose Hill, Greenwich Park, Richmond Park and Bushy Park.

We also manage other important public spaces including Brompton Cemetery and Victoria Tower Gardens.

Our eight Royal Parks and other iconic green spaces are among the most visited attractions in the UK with 77 million visits every year.

We are now looking for two Head Gardeners on a permanent, full-time basis, working 36 hours per week.

This is an exceptional opportunity for a horticultural professional with a strong grasp of horticultural plant and machinery operations to step into a unique role with our dedicated organisation.


The Role:


As one of two Head Gardeners, you will take on a new role leading on planning and implementing practical ornamental horticultural operations at The Regent's Park and Primrose Hill.


Leading our Horticultural Resource Team, you'll support the Assistant Park Managers and support the delivery of a range of landscape maintenance works.

This will include supporting planting plans, pruning works, regeneration projects, habitat creation and some conservation duties.


You'll ensure the highest horticultural standards are maintained, reporting any concerns and ensuring plant and planting records are up to date and collections are correctly identified, and where appropriate, labelled.


Additionally, you will:

  • Act as the main daytoday operational contact for the Horticultural Resource Team
  • Collate updates and photographs related to practical horticulture
  • Engage with a range of contractors
  • Assist in the recruitment and deployment of horticultural volunteers
  • Carry out administrative and marketingrelated tasks

About You:

To be considered as a Head Gardener, you will need:

  • A formal horticultural qualification e.g., National Certificate in Horticulture, National Diploma, NVQ Level 3 (amenity horticulture) or RHS, or equivalent experience
  • Excellent plant knowledge, particularly around shrubs, herbaceous, bulbous and bedding plants
  • Good knowledge and experience of horticultural plant and machinery operations
  • Good knowledge and experience of managing health & safety in the workplace, including practical knowledge of COSHH regulations
  • Excellent organisational and forward planning skills
  • Great leadership, motivational and communication skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office packages
  • A full, valid driving licence
