    The Great Western Hospital is pleased to be able to offer the opportunity to Reporting Sonographers to join the existing team within the Radiology team to enhance the ongoing development of our service.

    No matter what your favorite field of Ultrasound is, there is always a warm welcome from our family of Sonographers at GWH.

    At present we carry out over 50,000 ultrasound examinations a year including GMUS, Vascular, EPU and Obstetric exams.

    The Scanning department is located within Radiology on the Ground floor of the GWH, which includes MRI and CT and Ultrasound with Radiography right next door giving us an excellent team dynamic both amongst the Sonographers and the wider Radiology team. We also have a satellite Ultrasound department for Maternity and Early pregnancy allowing more great teamwork with our Obstetric colleagues.

    There are currently 11 dedicated and friendly Sonographers in our team and we need more like us, to support our bustling service. We work seamlessly alongside our 15 Radiologists who are both adjuvant and cohesive to our service.

    Main duties of the job Clinical

    1. To perform ultrasound scans including highly specialist techniques and care for patients during these examinations, respecting the rights of privacy and confidentiality, maintaining a high quality service to patients and clinicians.

    2. To independently assess each patient and adapt scanning technique according to the needs of the patient.

    3. To use discretion to work outside of departmental standards when clinically needed.

    4. To write formal reports in a concise and professional manner.

    5. To discuss ultrasound findings with other practitioners and clinicians.

    6. To manage their own workload and help others when possible.

    7. To contribute to the planning, organisation and smooth running of the area in which you are working, liaising with, clinicians and other staff within the trust and GP practices.

    8. To maintain departmental stock levels.

    9. To adhere to all Trust policies including the Health and Safety Regulations COSHH Regulations the Data Protection Act.

    10. To be able to use the departmental radiology information computer system (RIS) and be conversant with the picture archive system (PACS).     • Degree or equivalent for a Health Care related profession
    • Post Graduate diploma in ultrasound or equivalent
    • Registration with the Health Professions Council
    • Evidence of continued professional development
    • Competence in Gynae, General Medical and Obstetric scanning
    Desirable
    • NT competence
    Experience Essential
    • Significant experience in Ultrasound scanning
    Desirable
    • Post-qualification experience of working in the NHS
    Skills Essential
    • Developed ultrasound scanning skills
    • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team or single-handedly
