Joint User is a UK Strategic Command function that captures the single Services (Army, Navy, Air Force) needs in a particular capability area and then defines what is best for Defence to meet the key joint requirements for each environment.

It is Joint User which sets Defence's Demand Signal for the capability sponsor, considering impacts and implications across the five operating domains (Maritime, Land, Air, Space and Cyber) whilst working alongside the single Services to agree scaling and to integrate new capabilities, pan-domain, and pan-Defence Lines of Development.


This job role may be suitable for hybrid working, which is an informal, non-contractual and voluntary arrangement, blending a balance of attendance in the workplace (your permanent duty station) and working from home as a personal choice.

The current expectation is 3 days a week in the office and 2 days working from home.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week


Job description:


  • The Command and Control (C2) Systems Desk Officer is responsible for ensuring Joint User requirements of deployable C2 information systems are represented in current and future Defence projects. They work with a wide range of national and international stakeholders within and outside of Defence in order to ensure that the UK's deployable information systems and information sharing capabilities deliver what the user needs, are interoperable and provide a digital backbone for the information sharing needed to deliver the C2 of UK Forces deployed on Defence operations around the globe.

Person specification:


Responsibilities include:

  • Coordinate capability integration and acceptance meetings for assigned C2 projects.
  • Develop and maintaining a network of stakeholders, both within and outside of Defence; and acting as the single point of contact for queries.
  • Act as the Desk level lead for Interoperability Services and provide support to wider C2 programmes.
  • Contribute to current and future access to Interoperability Services across the Front-Line Commands, Joint Operations, NATO and other Multinational domains.
  • Create and deliver briefing products on C2 capabilities for decision at 1* level and above.
  • Propose capability changes for assigned C2 projects (including changes to Concepts/Doctrine/TTPs).

Qualifications:


  • Level 3 qualification in an Electronics or Telecommunications Engineering Discipline or appropriate equivalent
