Description
Will be the clinical leader for the theatre speciality in a supervisory and multi-skilled
role. Will take responsibility for the clinical management of the theatre and the
provision of patient care. Acts in a manner that upholds the values of the Trust and that
of the profession ensuring that service delivered contributes to supporting the
principles of clinical governance


CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Act as a Clinical Nurse/leader to ensure the needs of patients are recognised and met by the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care. Will take steps to deal with, and notify the Lead Nurse of any difficulty in the care planning process and in implementing planned care.
  • Responsible in leading the theatre team in the provision of care ensuring that effective communication systems exist and that all staff receive team briefing and have the opportunity to discuss matters relating to their services and trust matters.
  • Act as a point of liaison for multi disciplinary and multi agency working in order to achieve the best possible outcome for patient care. Will notify the Lead Nurse of any deficits in service provision from other agencies.
  • Provide registered practitioner support to junior nursing staff ensuring that staff training needs are identified and they have a personal development plan and professional profile undertaking IPR's within the post holders area of responsibility.
  • Accountable and responsible for accurate and legible record keeping in accordance with local policies and NMC guidelines. In case of ODP - in line AODP Code of conduct.
  • Undertake additional training as required to meet the needs of the patients and register any additional skills acquired as a result of enhanced practice


You will need to be a qualified RN or ODP Level III with a minimum of 3 years experience at band 5 within a theatre setting.

Applicants must hold a recognised theatre qualification i.e. ODP III, ENB 183 or equivalent. A teaching qualification and proof of education at degree level would be an advantage.

Maintain a safe level of nursing staff, taking remedial action and reporting to the Lead Nurse when this cannot be achieved.


  • Assist the Lead Nurse in the selection of staff; take appropriate action on issues of staff discipline/grievance, poor performance and sickness, following the Trust Policies.
  • Assist the Lead Nurse in undertaking the Individual Performance Review of staff.
  • Will have knowledge of theatre budgets and assist in the efficient and effective use and maintenance of theatre resources to meet the needs of the patients and the department.
