    Main duties of the job

    Work as an autonomous practitioner, responsible for the provision of medical services to the practice population, delivering an excellent standard of clinical care whilst complying with the PMS contract. Furthermore, the post-holder will adhere to the GMC standards for good medical practice, contributing to the effective management of the practice, leading by example, maintaining a positive, collaborative working relationship with the multidisciplinary team.

It is essential that if, the legalrequirements are to be met and the trust of our patients is to be retained thatall staff protect patient information and provide a confidential service.

    Quality & Continuous Improvement (CI)

    Topreserve and improve the quality of our output, all personnel are required tothink not only of what they do, but how they achieve it. By continuallyre-examining our processes, we will be able to develop and improve the overalleffectiveness of the way we work. The responsibility for this rests witheveryone working within the practice to look for opportunities to improvequality and share good practice.

    Thispractice continually strives to improve work processes which deliver healthcare with improved results across all areas of our service provision. Wepromote a culture of continuous improvement, where everyone counts, and staffare permitted to make suggestions and contributions to improve our servicedelivery and enhance patient care.

    Induction Training

    On arrival at thepractice all personnel are to complete a practice induction programme; this ismanaged by the Deputy Practice Manager.

    Learning and Development

    Theeffective use of training and development is fundamental in ensuring that allstaff are equipped with the appropriate skills, knowledge, attitude and competencesto perform their role. All staff will be required to partake and completemandatory training as directed by the training coordinator, as well asparticipating in the practice training programme. Staff will also be permitted (subject toapproval) to undertake external training courses which will enhance theirknowledge and skills, progress their career and ultimately, enable them toimprove processes and service delivery.

    Collaborative Working

    Allstaff are to recognise the significance of collaborative working. Teamwork isessential in multidisciplinary environments. Effective communication isessential and all staff must ensure they communicate in a manner which enablesthe sharing of information in an appropriate manner.

    Service Delivery

    Staffat The Villages Medical Group must adhere to the information contained withpractice policies and regional directives, ensuring protocols are adhered to atall times. Staff will be given detailed information during the inductionprocess regarding policy and procedure.

    Security

    Thesecurity of the practice is the responsibility of all personnel. Staff mustensure they remain vigilant at all times and report any suspicious activityimmediately to their line manager. Under no circumstances are staff to sharethe codes for the door locks to anyone and are to ensure that restricted areasremain effectively secured.

    Professional Conduct

    AtThe Villages Medical Group staff are required to dress appropriately for theirrole. Administrative staff will be provided with a uniform whilst clinicalstaff must dress in accordance with their role.

    Leave

    All personnel are entitled to take leave. Line managers are to ensure all of their staff are afforded the opportunity to take a minimum of 20 days leave each year, and should be encouraged to take all of their leave entitlement.

    Primary Responsibilities

    The following are the core responsibilities of the salaried GP.There may be on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will bedependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:

    a. The delivery of highly effective medical care to the entitledpopulation

    b. The provision of services commensurate with the PMS contract

    c. Generic prescribing adhering to local and national guidance

    d. Effective management of long-term conditions

    e. Processing of administration in a timely manner, includingreferrals, repeat prescription requests and other associated administrativetasks

    f. On a rotational basis, undertake telephone triage and dutydoctor roles

    g. Maintain accurate clinical records in conjunction with goodpractice, policy and guidance

    h. Working collaboratively, accepting an equal share of thepractice workload

    i. Adhere to best practice recommended through clinicalguidelines and the audit process

    j. Contribute to the successful implementation of continuousimprovement and quality initiatives within the practice

    k. Accept delegated responsibility for a specific area (orareas) or the QOF

    l. Attend and contribute effectively to practice meetings asrequired

    m. Contribute effective to the development and maintenance ofthe practice including; clinical governance, training, financial management andHR

    n. Ensure compliance with the appraisal process

    o. Prepare and complete the revalidation process

    p. Commit to self-learning and instil an ethos of continuingprofessional development across the practice team

    q. Support the training of medical students from all clinicaldisciplines

    r. Support the partners in achieving the strategic aims of thepractice, making recommendations to enhance income and reduce expenditure

    s. Review and adhere to practice protocols and policies at alltimes

    t. Encourage collaborative working, liaising with all staffregularly, promoting a culture of continuous improvement at all times

    Secondary Responsibilities

    In addition to the primary responsibilities, the salaried GP maybe requested to:

    a. Participate in practice audits as requested by the audit lead

    b. Participate in local initiatives to enhance service deliveryand patient care

    c. Participate in the review of significant and near-miss eventsapplying a structured approach root cause analysis (RCA)
