Description
This job is designed for a competent band 6 to work towards proficiency in the implant and follow up of cardiac devices, whilst using their skill and expertise to assist in maintaining the Trusts high standards of care and aid in the development of the cardiac physiology team.
Areas of focus will be Interventional Cardiology - Left and right heart catheterisation, PCI, PPCI, OCT, IVUS, Pressure Wires, Rotablation, Shockwave and CTOs.
Non-invasive Cardiology - ETT, Tilts, CSM, Ambulatory and event recorder analysis.
Under the guidance of the Lead Cardiac Physiologist the post holder will be proficient and able to work unsupervised in the areas of interventional and non-invasive cardiology, providing a quality service for patients requiring procedures in these areas.
The post holder will be responsible for assessing patients' needs whilst undergoing procedures and providing an appropriate level of care.
To be clinically proficient in a range of clinical and scientific investigations and treatments for patients with a broad range of pathologies.
Analyse, interpret and compare investigative and clinical options.
Make judgements, including clinical and differential judgements, involving complicated facts or situations that impact on patients.
To provide in-house training sessions for student physiologists and other technical and medical staff supporting their professional development and performance
To respond autonomously to unexpected clinical emergencies (e.g. cardiac arrest, pre-arrest situations) and technical situations (e.g. technical failure of the equipment, network connectivity) displaying efficient problem solving initiatives.
To liaise effectively with the Cardiac Physiology Lead to ensure that national guidelines are maintained and that the guidelines are up-to-date and relevant to current clinical and technical practice.
To participate in and attend departmental meetings.
To contribute at a senior level to the departmental organisation and development by objective assessment and monitoring of services and implementation of new care pathways in collaboration with the invasive cardiology manager.

Scientific/Technical Role
Perform, interpret and report a range of investigations undertaken indirectly for or directly with patients within a range of care settings in invasive procedures and arrhythmia management.
Assist with pacing clinics and perform brady PPM implantation with in direct supervision.
Provide independent analysis of Holter recordings.
Inform the Cardiologist urgently when a serious condition is diagnosed.
To be competent in basic Cardio-pulmonary Resuscitation technique and following appropriate training be proficient in Intermediate Life Support. Initiate treatment and support Medical Staff during cardiac Resuscitation.
Educational
The post holder must work within the guidelines set out by the clinic protocols.
Working towards undertaking of BHRS/IBHRE
To be up to date with mandatory training (statutory and directorate specific).
Will assist in the facilitation of a learning environment, which is conducive to the acquisition of further knowledge and skills.
Under the guidance of the Invasive Cardiology Manager be able to reflect on one's own practice, and identify training and development needs in line with the IPR policy.
