- Providing specialist technical support.
- Leadership of the Engineering team.
- Checking and supporting the work of the Engineering team.
- Carry out basic calculations to support decisions.
- Review and check drawings.
- Provide fault diagnosis and solutions to the turbine and generator and other plant equipment.
- Assessing plant condition, proposing future operational strategy and recommending the engineering programme of work for station outages and maintenance.
- Act as technical oversight and signatory.
- Providing technical specifications and assessments for the supply of spares and repairs.
- Ensuring staffing levels & resources are available to accomplish planned maintenance & emergent work requests within the agreed time scales.
- Supporting & communicating the daily priorities.
- Performing appraisals to actively develop the Engineering team.
- Liaising with external suppliers and contractors.
- Reinforcing positive attitudes & nuclear professionalism behaviours that improve performance and achieve a safe working environment of Zero Harm.

Salary: Up to c£75k + excellent benefits including 10% client pension contribution (rising to 15% after 2 years), private healthcare and 28 days holiday (30 days after 5 years). Our client, EDF, is looking for an experienced mechanical and/or electrical engineering professional with expertise in rotating / process plant (in particular steam turbines and associated generation equipment), allied with proven project engineering / project management skills to take on the role of Engineering Manager within their Fleet Turbine & Maintenance Group at their Heysham 2 nuclear power station (LA3 2XQ), with responsibility for maintaining the fleet's turbine and generator assets.
This role will be based at least 3 days/week on the Heysham site with the rest worked from home. Occasional travel to support work at other EDF sites will also be required. In addition, some paid overtime will be available.
Role
The Engineering Manager will be responsible for leading a small Engineering team to support the fleet's turbine and generator assets, as wells as their auxiliary systems. You will provide technical expertise both mechanically and electrically to ensure equipment reliability and alignment to international standards. In the business, you will report directly to the Fleet Turbine & Maintenance Group Manager and work closely with Operations, Supply Chain and Contract Partners, whilst maintaining a key interface with our station engineering teams.
Day-to-day duties will include:
Key Qualifications and Experience
Candidates will require a good understanding of rotating/process plant, in particular steam path technology, fluid mechanics, FEA, material technology, NDE techniques, pump technology and pressure systems, ideally allied with 5+ years experience with large turbines, generators and their associated generation equipment.
In addition, candidates should ideally possess prior experience of directing / leading engineering teams in the successful delivery of mantenance projects, as well as supporting both team and individual development.
