We have an exciting opportunity for a Technical Release and Environment Manager to join the Investments IT Operations function based in London (hybrid working).

Railpen is responsible for the safekeeping and investment of around £34 billion in assets and the administration of several pension schemes, including the Railways Pension Scheme, one of the UK's largest and longest established pension funds.

Our heritage of looking after the pension needs of the rail industry and its employees gives us our name and our unique outlook on how we serve our members.

Railpen takes a holistic view, focusing on how we serve members today and how we can positively impact the communities and the world they will retire into.

Our values of integrity, community and alignment are the guiding principles that influence our behaviour. These values help us make decisions and shape our interactions with others.

As the Technical Release and Environment Manager this role will be required to support the investment business and related functions by providing well planned out release pipelines and stable environments so the investment business can perform their roles to secure members futures.

You will be responsible for operating the Railpen Investments release management process utilising JIRA and Azure DevOps.

You will ensure releases are governed and controlled across all environments and ensuring that appropriate actions have been planned to minimise both the risk of failure and impact on the business and systems, during deployments.

You will be managing the multi stream release and upgrade processes, either from Railpen's change projects, agile change forum (ACF) or BAU release activity from IT Operations.

Lastly you'll be responsible for keeping our environments up to date, in sync and fit for purpose, this will involve planning refreshes and maintenance windows.

We are looking for someone with good technical ability, who has previously worked within a Release Management role. The successful candidate will have the ability to carry out release deployments into all environments including Production.

You will aim to build trusted relationships with the business and external partners and be keen to train and educate developers, operations, change teams and stakeholders on release management practises with the aim of sharing knowledge and developing best practice.

Any experience of working with Windows Servers, CI/CD deployment using Azure DevOps, ARM templates, PowerShell, and Microsoft SQL Server would be a distinct advantage.

Experience with JIRA Software and JIRA Service Management would be beneficial but not essential to succeed in the role.

As a Technical Release and Environment Manager, you will be an effective communicator who is comfortable collaborating with a variety of stakeholders at all levels, cross-functionally and within the team to ensure the smooth running of our key systems.
