    The Peninsula Cancer Alliance is developing a work plan which prioritises delivery of the recommendations within the LTP (Long Term Plan) for cancer.

    The Cancer Alliance aims to strengthen collaborative working to:

    • develop a unified vision for cancer services in the Peninsula and in accordance with the Cancer LTP
    • establish consistency of standards for pathway management, clinical protocols and provision of cancer treatments
    • better manage diagnostic capacity to improve cancer waiting times
    • reduce costs through reducing duplication and variation
    • enhance patient experience
    • maximise research and training across the system
    • Ensure meaningful engagement with the public and patients and other key partners on the development and their delivery of their plans
    • share learning
    This post will be at the heart of the Peninsula Cancer Alliance, supporting the Alliance and wider team to ensure the smooth running of all its functions. The post holder will also lead on communication and will manage the Administration team.

    The candidate will also be responsible for Information Governance over the data requirements for the team and supporting the Peninsula Cancer Alliance board.

    ***Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as 'Priority' and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.*** Main duties of the job To provide a skilled and full range of duties, in support of the Alliance:
    • Deliver effective business processes for the Alliance including personnel, budget support and stakeholder management.
    • To establish the communication plans/strategy for the Alliance including managing the relationships with all relevant stakeholders
    • To establish the reporting arrangements for the Alliance ensuring that reporting is maintained accurately and in a timely manner
    • To have the skills to support Alliance staff with presentations to large groups
    • Support the Managing Director and Alliance Programme Manager run the Alliance Board/s efficiently including preparing pre-Board and post-Board communication.
    • To support the Managing Director with budget management including regular reporting
    • To manage the Alliance's administrative staff
    • To develop and support Alliance workshops and other active engagement
    • The post-holder is expected to take responsibility for delivery against this job description and annual objectives as agreed in objective setting and appraisal meetings
    • Set, plan and prioritise own workload to deliver effective outcomes
    • Take responsibility for own professional development and learning.
    • Act as recruitment manager for the team and follow internal processes and systems.
    • On-board new team members to the organisation.
    • Maintain the Information Governance functions for the team.
    • Lead on Communications functions such as the alliance website, social media and national project communications

    • To enable the effective participation by all stakeholder organisations in the Alliance
    • To support the Chair and the Managing Director to run the Alliance business
    • To lead on projects as required thereby supporting the improvements in access and outcomes for cancer patients and their families
    • To work collaboratively across the NHS England/Improvement and with the Devon & Cornwall IoS ICS
    • Enabling patient and public involvement
    • To act as a champion for patients and their interests and involve the public and patients in the policy development and decision-making of NHS England.
    • To ensure all public and patient contact with the office is of the highest professional standard.
    • To embed patient and public involvement within NHS England at all levels of decision making.

    • Through the leadership and coordination of the Cancer Alliance, and MCS this postholder will be able to engage with the Clinical Alliance, commissioners and providers across the Peninsula, in both secondary and primary care and the public and patients

    • oEducated to degree level in relevant subject or significant equivalent previous demonstrable experience.
    KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE Essential
    • Demonstrable experience of managing risks and reporting
    • Proven knowledge of NHS issues
    • Significant demonstrable experience of using Office Suite and other software to support Alliance activities
    • Demonstrable experience of co-ordinating projects in complex and challenging environments
    • Demonstrable experience of drafting briefing papers and correspondence at senior level
    • Demonstrable experience of monitoring budgets and business planning processes

    • Driving License as travel around the Peninsula will be required.
    • Demonstrable experience of managing a team without direct line management
    • An ability to maintain confidentiality and trust
